Today I was at the place where I recently picked up my 3 lawn tractors for parts and while we were looking around he showed me some heavy forklift tires. So I took one home and here is what I made. Posting from my iPod so the pictures aren't that great. I bet you that the tire weighs about 50 pounds, it should work as a good base and it wont damage the floor when I roll it around. :thumbup1gif: I will be bringing the vice down tomorrow so I can finish this up and weld the top plate on. My grandpa really likes it, this means we may be making another, or even 2, I have 2 vices to mount.:thumbup1gif:

Neat idea. I like how you made the height adjustable. :good2: It should come in very handy.

Thanks guys! Today I brought down both my vices and the big one wouldn't fit on my adjustable one, the wheel was too small of a counter weight anyways. So What I did was went and got a second, larger forklift tire and made a non-adjustable heavy duty vice. The base is close to 120 pounds easily, then I used some old water line from the farm down the street from the scrap pile, along with a round plate (fit perfectly on the forklift tire) and a square one for the top to mount the vice on. I contemplated gussets on the big vice but I am not gonna have things on there that weight 2000 pounds. So now I have a perfect set up, a small portable vice for use all around the property and a large one for heavy use in the garage. The large one in total is probably close to 200 pounds, it will be fun loading into the pickup and more fun taking it out since i don't have a FEL on my Yanmar. I would have made the big one adjustable but with it as heavy as it is adjusting it would be a hassle and already having one with the small vice, it wasnt really needed.
