While I was mowing last fall (last mow of the year) my mower (1973 JD 110 with original engine) died right in the middle of the yard...no smoke...no sounds...just dead; like I turned the key off. When I turned the key to start it...nothing but silence. I pushed it back to the garage, covered it, and let it sleep for the winter. Last week I went out and it started...and then died after about 5 seconds. Then, when I turned the key to start it...nothing...silence. Could a bad battery be causing this??? Coil??? Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

Look for this, under the battery tray. The rating will be stamped on the sides. They can be cheap at your dealer, or any autoparts store.
