Must have String Trimmer Accessory

Anyone who uses a string trimmer regularly really needs one of these Darwin's Grips. It allows you to properly run the string trimmer, standing up straight. I have tried a number of things and THIS is a very handy product. It's the best $65 (approx) I have spent in some time.

A few notes;
1. The delivery takes a long time due to production issues, etc, just as many places are experiencing. I ordered my Darwins Grip in June and it arrived today. Plan on it taking 45 to 60 days to get yours. When you order, you are securing a future produced handle. The demand is very high on these, but frankly, they are worth the wait. Get on the list for yours NOW..........

2. This is also a new upgrade to the product, which delayed its production. The clamp has been upgraded and the handle manufacturing improved, making the finished quality much better. Before, it was more like a one off produced handle in someone's garage. Now, its a professionally manufactured piece with an improved clamp, etc.

3. Be patient if you order it and expect to have your card charged when ordered. The website explains everything clearly for those who take time to read it. Make sure you read the ordering details,. etc. You will be paying in advance for something they will ship you in 45 to 60 days. If that's not acceptable, then don't order it.

4. Avoid carrying the entire trimmer by this handle and instead, use this handle to support your holding position and not to pick up and carry the trimmer. This keeps the clamp tight and avoids the need to re-tighten the clamp hardware often. Also use the enclosed red thread lock on the clamp allen bolts. This is a support handle, not a carry handle. Those who use it as designed are much happier with the product. I know I like it.

5. Do not over tighten the clamp and simply follow the directions. Its really very clear and simple. However, those who I have read complain about the handle misuse it. Please note, the handle position is designed to be adjusted with the red clamp tightener. The allen bolts secure the position of the clamp on the trimmer shaft. Use the handle as designed and intended, and you will be very happy with it.

6. Don't buy one of the knockoff's which are on the market place. The seller of this continues to refine it and also supports it. Order directly from the seller / maker and avoid mark ups and delays when ordering from other sources.

7. The end of the handle is fluted like bicycle handle bars, to prevent the handle spinning in the clamp. You adjust the handles vertical position to the trimmer when you use the trimmer by loosening the handle with the red cover on it.

8. Position where it works best on your trimmer or power head shaft and tighten. You can lower the handle to the trimmer for transport or wall / trailer hangers. You can also rotate the clamp on the tube if having an angular holding pattern is more comfortable for you. Plenty of adjustment capability to meet your needs.

There are video's on You Tube which show this in use by various professional lawn care You Tubers. For those who use the string trimmer extensively, this DRAMATICALLY improves your vertical position and allows you to stand straight and run the string trimmer.

The taller you are, the more this helps with eliminating lower back pain when running the string trimmer. I am 6'4" and really like this attachment. I can stand straight up and properly run the string trimmer. Also, previously, to avoid stooping over, I would carry the entire string trimmer with one hand, and operate it that way. That resulted in some tendon damage running the trimmer and supporting it one hand at a time. That's over with this handle.

Here are actual photo's of my Echo 58v Power Head with the string trimmer attachment on it. You can position the handle clamp to best suit your needs. The seller suggested 22" from the trimmer head. Being taller, I found mounting the handle 25.5" above the string trimmer head works best for me. Mount it where it best suits your needs.

Very easy to install, very easy to adjust. Sort of like your car seat, you need to find the adjustment which best suits you. You are going to be surprised how much this improves the operation of the string trimmer. Tremendously helpful tool to reduce the pain and fatigue of running the trimmer and produce much better and faster trimming results.

Also use this for edging and any other applications with these hand held power units. Fits all trimmers with the shafts like the one shown, which is 99% of the hand held string trimmers on the market. I sure wish I would have found this years ago...............better yet, I wish I had thought of this.

Would this help with a curved shaft trimmer that seems too short unless you’re weed whacking your toes?

This is the business location In Alabama. An LLC of one person based on business info. Looks like it is a one-man shop. That is not a bad thing, but explains the up front payment policy and long production and delivery times. If enough of us order based on the Sullybear endorsement the delivery time may really be pushed back even more, so get your order in now.

@ClydeLogan Many businesses are home based, does that make them less of a "business"? 😒 - Failing to see the point of the post. They are upfront on their website about payment and potential for lead times.

The Darwin Grip is well know in the LCO (professional lawn care) community and has been for years.

I've been looking at these the last few days, it doesn't even seem like they are taking orders for them right now. I need to reach out to them and find out, but I can't seem to order one from the website.

You are certainly prickly today. Why are you taking offense? This is how I check out any on line business before I place my order. Have you ordered yet? I have.

I do like geometry, but I was just encouraging people to order early, as this is a one-man, home-based shop. AND I AM AHEAD OF YOU IN THE ORDER LINE. :D
Looks like he was overpowered with new orders from GTT.
What's it wiegh? I don't see any specs, wouldn't want to add 5lbs to the weed wacker. It's too heavy just bare bones as is.

Doubtful..........I think its time for a new shaft......on the string trimmer...............
o_O o_O

Actually, I asked my friend who sells Echo and others why they make the curved shaft trimmers and his reply was "So people will regret their purchase and buy the correct trimmer the 2nd time"......I think he is right. He strongly discourages the curved shaft trimmers unless people are vertically challenged.......

Maybe I didn't infer your first post as helpful, but I didn't resort to calling names. 👎

Edit: I'm not as careful I guess when researching business, I definitely don't go posting pictures of their Google streetview of business addresses and pretty much anything that @SulleyBear recommends I wouldn't hesitate to purchase if I wanted it.

PS: I'll save you the trouble. 😏

The shipping weight on the box, handle and all was 2 pounds and I don't think the handle weighs more than 1 pound with the clamp. It certainly doesn't make handling the trimmer "heavier", it dramatically improves its balance when in use.

You have to get in line, basically like I did. They ship them as built and they are clearly behind the order demand. Honestly, its worth the wait. I used the trimmer yesterday for about an hour in total and wow, what a difference............

It comes with red threadlock in the tube in the package with the instructions, with a separate sheet encouraging people to NOT use a drill or impact to tighten the bolts and to use the red tube of thread lock included, which I did.........No problems in the first hour with loose bolts. It even suggests a specific gap size on the clamp to know when its tight, which I think was 1.66MM, but I would have to look at the sheet again.......

I thought you were going to get Drobinson to come run that string trimmer for you.
Anyway I saw this pic in the link and it reminded me of the 70’s movie Caveman with Ringo Star when him and Dennis Quaid ran at eachother and collided straightening each other’s back out.
