My X590 has only 15 hours on it. I did the necessary oil and filter change at 8 hours. It has been used only for light mowing...grass, no hard stuff. Never mowed when turf was wet. Has always had a Battery Tender attached when not in use. Is stored in dry garage under a breathable cover. Has been thoroughly cleaned after every use. The blades have never hit any rocks or hard objects and are still sharp. Have always used stabilized gas. Will be greased at end of season...late October. I would prefer not having to have my dealer pick it up to do an annual service. I have two very nice Harley Davidsons that each see only about 1000 highway miles per year. I have them serviced by the dealer every other year. I have found this to be very satisfactory. Would this probably be sufficient for the Deere X590.

This is a quote from your manual -

Every 50 Hours or Annually

Lubricate front axle pivot and axle spindles.
Lubricate mower deck spindles.
Lubricate idler arm pivot.
Lubricate lift pedal, if equipped.
Lubricate rear U-Joints (X584).
Lubricate front steering link (X584).

Every 100 Hours or Annually

Change engine oil and filter.
Replace spark plugs.
Replace air filter elements, both foam and paper.
Replace fuel filter.
Clean engine cooling fins.
Check mower belt.
Sharpen or replace blades.
Clean underside of deck.
Check tire pres

x590 Owner’s Manual

You can interpert “annually” any way you want but to me it means every year.

I'm going to ask a silly question here.... why have the routine service performed by the dealer at all? If you were comfortable changing the engine oil/filter, performing the other maintenance items is no more difficult. Changing the transmission oil/filter at 50 hrs is just as easy. Installing new plugs and air filter is even easier. About the only routine maintenance that some owners feel uncomfortable with is the valve adjustment at 200 hrs. I just did this on my X500 and it was very easy using the Technical Manual.

IMHO, your first "annual" maintenance interval would start a year from now, not at 15 hrs.

Unless something breaks under warranty or later something breaks that you cannot handle, I would avoid any return trips to the dealer if you can.

I wouldn't be afraid to forego the annual maintenance for a bit longer . I assume however that the oil in it now isn't a year old and that you have already checked the air cleaner . It sounds like you have a handle on everything else . My .02 . :bigbeer:

My other 2-cents... those "annual service" offerings by the dealers are geared towards folks who do not take care of their equipment. If it weren't for someone touching it once a year the thing would get no love at all. Those annual service offerings are also huge money makers.

I can handle the tractor service...no problem. It's getting at that mower deck is where I would have a possible problem. It appears that it is a pain in the butt to remove and at age 75, I just don't feel like crawling around on the ground. I think that I'll try to make sure that it is pretty clean under the deck and call it good enough. Thanks for your suggestions

I'm in about the same shape as you. It sounds like something like a Mo-Jack might be a worthwhile investment. I no longer take off my X500 deck for cleaning or blade replacement / sharpening. I lay on a creeper and just roll around comfortably.
