ok folks I need help, (no not that kind) a couple of years ago I bought my son (who's only 10) a 318 w/ 50 in deck and a #49 snow blower.
well he wants the blower on now but we didn't get the adaptor bracket #AM39599 for the handle that controls the chute.
JD parts site says NLA so by chance is there one out there in loose hands or is there another way to mount the handle.
Thanks David
If can't figure this out there mat be a blower up for sale.

Hi cougar, I think the easiest way to get one would probably be ebay, or if you can find a picture of one they don't look very hard to make. It will mount on the right side of the dash tower. If there isn't holes already there you might have to drill 2.
Welcome to DT Cougar.

Have you tried your dealer's parts department? Make sure you ask them to search nationwide as each dealer can view the other's inventory thanks to the magic of computers and the Internet.
If we can get a picture I am sure we can help you get something that will work. I will PM EEPete-I think he has a 318 w/blower.
Thanks guys I got the part # and gonna ask one of the dealers I drop off parts to and see what happens, sorry I can't scan the picture and post it on here.
Thanks again David
Funny thing, Google works.

Hey guys, I googled the part number and it shows this dealer in IL has one. Give'em a call. Here is the link.

I realize I've neglected giving Randy the "Joy of Pictures" recently, and this looks like a good excuse to do so.

Here are the pieces that put a blower on a 318.

There is a pulley that mounts on the PTO, and a lower pully that connects to the drive-shaft.

And here's the "big bracket" sequence, a look at the rear of the bracket (you can see how it would mount to the 318) and the drive-shaft.

Almost forgot. You'll want the rear weights. There is way too much weight out in front of the little 318. I have the 75# wheel weights, but that was not enough. So I got the weight bracket and filled it.

Another important safety tip: When trying to decide if you really want the rear weight bracket, do NOT ask your spouse to sit on the back of the tractor to see if it helps, and then proudly proclaim "Yep, looks like I need to get weight bracket and 240# of weights to give this baby some serious traction."

Instead, declare "Sorry, you just don't have enough weight to make any noticeable difference" and then of course you still go out and order the bracket.

'Nuff said.

I think he is looking for the bracket that holds the shoot rotating handle. The one that mounts on the side of the dash tower. I think that is what he ia looking for?
I have the hydraulic chute rotator and a fixed chute angle, so no bracket. I'm sorry, I should have made that more clear. Wanted to post pix of the setup so anyone doing a search could see the pieces.

Now if we can just get some snow this winter, I can get some pictures of what it looks like when it's all together.

I just found a few minutes to look this up on jdparts, it looks very simple to duplicate.

That thar is them fancy curb feelers. :mocking:
Those are there to confuse any Copperhead snakes that might be hiding in the snow.

Must work, I've never been attacked by a Copperhead while blowing snow :mocking:.

Ok, I'm too lazy to cut off the extra. Turns out it also helps because sometimes they break off and I can tell if they are missing and put another on. The chains just don't stay one without tie wraps around the rubber strap that keeps everything pulled in. Seems like the smaller the tire, the harder it is to have the chains stay on. Few things suck more than being up to your hubcaps in snow and having a chain slip off. If I wasn't lazy I would never have discovered this.

I also use pieces of #12 copper wire to hold the locking latch for the chains in place, and hold the end of the chain on the "other side" of the latching hook latch thingie.

Last winter we had about 5" of snow, enough for the blade but not enough for the blower. I tried plowing with no chains, just the weights. No problems. But with the blower, and all that weight out front, chains are a must on the 318.

As a kid "up north" I did lots of blade n' blower work. It's a different deal down here in the South. I'm still figuring out how to use a blower on gravel that doesn't get a frozen layer on it, still a newbie there. Heck, even my snow blower still has training wheels on it.

Hey Pete, I had the same problem, all I did was lower my skid shoes as far as they would go down, it leaves an 1-2inches on the ground. By leaving it set and driving on it packing it in, hopefully it forms a hard crust so I can raise my skid shoes a little each time. That is the easiest way I found to use a blower on gravel. If anyone else knows a better way I would love to know because I hate raking rocks out of the grass.
the stock shoes didn't do much for me, so I've had some bigger ones made. If we ever get snow, I'll try those too. Between the big foot shoes and the training wheels, something should work. And since I only get a shot at it once every 5 to 8 years, I've got to have all options ready.

On the left are "new" shoes for the plow. Same problem, need more surface area.

I did get them primed and painted with advice from this crowd..

Pete, you are out of control with the zip ties on the chains. You are right, it is a PITA when you throw a chain in 12 or 15 inches of snow and have to get unstuck. I use NAPA chain tighteners, which work very well. I make sure to hook one hook on the loose links at the end of the chain to keep it from hitting the fender.

The blade is mounted, the chains are on, the rear weight bracket is loaded with six suitcase weights and the tractor is in the garage. I hope it is still sitting in the same place until it is time to put the mower deck on next spring. I doubt that I will be that fortunate.
