First time posting in the forum:

I am about to pull the trigger on a 2017 2032r with the 220r loader and 60" auto connect deck and the necessary command cut linkage.Dealer currently has me quoted at $24,465 before taxes. Is this something I have room to negotiate? I am thinking of closing the deal by asking for a 72" deck for the same price as the 60".

Current quotes:
2032r and 220r loader: MSRP- $27,038 selling price- $20,974.50
60" Autoconnect and command cut : MSRP- $3,956 Selling price- $3,490.59
Total: MSRP- $30,994 Selling price- $24,469.05

Welcome to GTT,

Make sure your quote is the "all in" price if you are going to compare dealers. One place gave me a quote on my tractor purchase that included numerous "set-up" charges (even had $70 set-up fee for chains!!) and delivery fees where as the dealer I ended up buying from just charged for the equipment and taxes.

I am all about building relationships with the people I buy with. The negotiations that usually do is "extras". Most JD Dealers I have looked at have a "price is the price" and in my area it is pretty consistent.

Negotiations come in with No Charge RimGuard or Wheel Weights, Light Guards, etc.

You can then see real savings that of course for them is only their cost you are negotiating.

My 2038, I got Wheel-weights, Light Guards and some other goodies to close the deal, on top of some discounting on the tractor.

Just remember that if you feel its a good deal, they it's your good deal. Others my pay more but it was their good deal.

Do your homework, ask questions, be firm in your requests and follow through with your commitments. I hate it when someone says, "if you give me this, I will buy" and then doesn't. There was someone next to me when I was ordering mine that did that...

Good Luck

My dealer was a little different. They list everything at retail, but as soon as they realize you are going to buy, they have a set price they drop every item to. They explained it to me being they they don’t want to waste time haggleing. This is what JD retails it for, and this is what we can sell it to you for. Don’t get me wrong, I felt their prices were very fair, but they are firm on them. After asking around and researching, it was close to what everybody else was getting, so I was good with it. I’m not a good haggler, so it worked out for me. Point being, JD sells these items to the dealer. They are not going to lose money on them. Most honest dealers are going to come close in pricing, just make sure you are around that mark.

Snowblower is right! I will eventually need one, but I currently do not live at this piece of property , so it is a 3 season place for us right now. Once we build a house there, a snowblower is a must!

One thing of note here - the price you pay for the tractor is not all that is involved with purchacing a tractor.

Service after the sale is very important with an equipment purchase like this. And not just service from the dealer for the first few months or for the extent of the warranty, but what could be a life long relationship.

Having a good dealer who will go out of their way for you with a breakdown or other issue is worth more than you think - more than that possible extra hundred or two you are paying up front.

I would certainly ask for a bottom line out-the-door price. But I don’t agree with badgering them - like getting prices from a few competing dealers and making them match the price. Also, in a situation like that, going with the cheapest price will sometimes marry you with a dealer who's service after the sale is sub-par.

Get a fair price from a reputable dealer. I would be asking about references for the dealer from folks here instead of asking about the price.

Hiya,

If it's your first purchase from that dealer, they don't know you from a hole in the wall so they will normally go to their "walk-in" price. What you will find is after you get to know the people in the dealership, you'll find yourself getting the "good customer" discount. If you call around to the dealers in the area and price out the same package, they will be within a few $ of each other for the most part unless there is one that has a unit on the lot they need to move and then they will give you a better price.

Now for some advice, pick the dealer first, price second. Your tractor will last 25 years or so, do you want to be dealing with a dealer that will do almost anything for you or one that you saved a few bucks on the initial purchase but now have to put up with poor customer service or bad attitude?

Second word of advice: order the snowblower with the package, in the bundle it will have more of a discount than buying it separately and the setup will be included with it. Also, if your financing, it will be part of total note and be less out of your pocket up front.

There is always room to talk about price. If there is more than one dealer nearby pit them against each other. get a quote from Mutton a sponsor here. Look at Tractor house on the web Don't be in a hurry the incentives have gone on for years. good luck :good2::good2:

I fully agree that a good dealer is worth a few more :gizmo: up front. However, I also think you need pricing from another source- it could be a second dealer or internet pricing or whatever but unless you have some comparison you don't know whether your first price is even in the ballpark.

Having said that, dealer pricing can vary a lot depending on the dealer's relationship with JD. A dealer that sells a ton of the model you want gets a better price from JD and can sell at a lower price to you. They will also likely have a service and parts department that are really familiar with your machine and able to set them up quickly and correctly.

That is originally why I went to another dealer, to see if the price was in the ballpark. The second quote was $1,374 less for the exact same equipment.

The original dealership is a huge (equity group bought up 16 dealerships all in the area) group, and they sell to all the farmers in the area. This seems to be a good thing when it comes to service and parts, but I am a drop in the bucket to them for customer service compared to a farmer buying a million dollar combine.

The second dealership is a small family owned business (2 locations) which I would assume sell mostly lawn mowers, zero turn and push snowblowers. Will this mean I have less experienced tractor mechanics? idk.

I just want the best bang for my buck, and want someone to appreciate the fact I am spending a small fortune on a MCUT.

Is the big dealer LandPro? I’ve dealt with them (Lakeland) prior to the merger and they were very good. I’m also considering a 2032r and hope to get the same results as in the past.

I know who your talking about,Land pro and Drake.I have experience with both and lets just say I drive 45 min to Oakfield Land pro then 20 min to Drake.I've received top notch service and respect when dealing with sales and parts workers.
As far as wiggle room not so much,I've found getting a few extras helps sweeten the deal sometimes like an extra set of blades and maintenance kit or a knock down on price of an attachment.

I thought that might be the case. I’m at a loss as to why Deere corporate is forcing the small family owned operations to become mega dealers but then again I’m just a simple farm boy who has never sat in a board room.

You hit the nail right on the head with he dealers (kind of obvious if you live around here, they're the only two we have to choose from). I appreciate the feedback. I wouldn't be going to the Oakfield store, rather the Alexander store.

Hopefully they can sweeten the deal with the heavy duty loader bucket or lighting package. We'll see I guess. Only thing they can say is "No"

From what I was told,Deere wants regional dealerships.Good and bad.

The good more buying power and easier to have stock spread out many stores and transfer from store to store.
Example my 45 loader was in Springville and was shipped to Oakfield for me when I purchased it used. No extra cost.

The bad the pricing is going to be steady without having anything to compare to.

I must say I have a very good salesman and the parts people are very helpful that's why I drive the distance I do.:good2:
