Hey everyone,

Well, I finally was able to get some photos of the tractor. I cut grass and leaves (mostly leaves) last Saturday into the evening hours after sunset. I have not taken any night pictures yet but the lighting package on this 1026R is really something to behold. Today was my first "test systems and discover new settings and options day" otherwise known as play day with the tractor. I managed to grab a few photos to share.

*There was alot of dust when I was cutting all those leaves last Saturday. Looks like I missed a few spots when I was cleaning her up. :flag_of_truce:

These last couple of photos demonstrate what others have already: the folding ROPS is a must for a standard garage door.

And since the instrument cluster is different on mine, being that it is a post S/N 210000 and all, I've got some videos demonstrating the RPM readout of the LCD display (Note: I've tried everything I can think of to get a MPH reading to display; the units appear when you turn the key to RUN but there is nothing so far that has resulted in the ground speed appearing in the LCD):

Tachometer from idle to full throttle
Rear PTO
Mid PTO

I'll try to post some more when I get some more "play" time. I've never been quite this excited about mowing season :good2:

Thanks,

Brad

Great pics and video.

The rpm readout is an interesting feature. Wonder if it is a true readout or just a representation from the engine rpm?

I would think it's a calculated figure based on the Engine RPM's and the drive gear ratio to the rear PTO and the front PTO. If the tractor has two or three ground speed ranges, that could explain why they don't display Ground speed.... Just a thought, I've no personel experience. Nice Tractor and mower for sure.........~Scotty

It sure does look like it would be an impressive "Light-Show" at night! The guy I bought my 4200 from had moved the signals to the inboard side or the ROPS But, I see you have guards on yours.....~S
Lower Idle Speed?

Thanks for the pics and videos, great! :thumbup1gif:

One thing I noticed is that you have a lower idle speed. My 1026R idles at above 1550 rpm, and the manual confirms it. It appears that your machine idles at just below 1200 rpm, which is really NICE.

I've read that others have questioned why the idle was so high on the new 10xx series, do you think Deere has changed something with the 2012 units?
Thanks for the nice pictures. I never get tired of looking at these machines.

I noticed that right away as well. Here is what a 2011 1026r looks like for those who may not know yet.

Wow, I like that RPM number feature, that's really slick. :thumbup1gif:

Maybe the engineers at JD have left the door open to ground speed monitoring in the future. They probably tried to build the new display to incorporate any future possibilities. The rpm range change is puzzling to me- if the spec capacities can be achieved at a new lower operating rpm, then presumably the engine's shaft(s) have also changed. If not, then maybe 2011 machines can be flashed to operate at the new ranges.
I really like the styling of these. Those Deere body panel designers must be around my age. I say this because...doesnt the front grill area remind you of :

Who was that masked man?.......

GREAT post Brad, thanks for sharing. :good2:
Well, the videos have me wondering if JD has changed the max engine RPM as well. If you indeed were at full throttle, it appears in all of the videos that you are maxing out at 3100 RPM. This is also reflected in the PTO RPM's because you did not reach 540 on the rear PTO or 2100 on the Mid PTO. Would like to hear from anyone else with the 2012 1026R to see if this is across the board or if this machine needs tweaking to get the RPM's correctly adjusted.

I'm in agreement here with you. I too have a post S/N 210000 (built on January 9th, so they must have been using up the 200000 parts on mine ) , but it does not have the RIO nor this slick RPM in the LCD readout when the PTO is engaged. My maintenance manual shows that the engine RPM's should be between 1575 and 3370 +/50, so me thinks that something is not right here since he is not obtaining the correct PTO speeds and his engine RPM's are lower.
I also have a post 200000 , built jan19th 2000535 and it also has the old style display and no RIO , thought I had an oddball but sounds like there are others also.
The serial number break is at 210,000. Any tractor built after that has the new "features".

I never gave the throttle issue anymore thought as everything seemed to be working fine. Well, it was a long time coming but I did discover why my engine RPMs were lower than other 1 series owners.

The throttle cable adjustment threads were broken. I spoke with my dealer and he ordered me a replacement cable (part no. LVA16330) under warranty. I replaced it myself and adjusted it to meet the manual specifications of ~1575RPM low and ~3370RPM max. The indicated PTO speed will go as high as ~2200RPM for the mid-PTO and ~560RPM for the rear PTO. The cable was really simple to replace with only a pair of pliers to crimp the plastic tabs for removal of the old cable near the throttle lever and a 10mm open end wrench for the adjustment nuts.

Thank you for bringing closure to the mystery of your under revving 1026R.
