I recently added a John Deere riding mower to my machine shed, where it occupies space with my '49 Farmall Cub, my '82 Ford F-150, and bits and pieces of other mostly useful equipment. The Cub is having it's electrics renovated at the moment, and so the Deere LA115 is pulling a small trailer, mowing grass and generally making itself useful. The JD replaced a slightly bigger MTD that I have run since 1995. It has finally been put out to pasture. Given that I used it (and now use the Deere) to push snow and dirt and rocks, as well as mowing grass (we keep a walking path around the main hayfield) it lasted a long time. I hope the JD will be as strong. It actually has a slightly bigger engine than the MTD (both are Briggs&Stratton twin), and a few mod cons, like a cup holder (really important). I got it from the estate of a family member, who took very good care of it, and so far, except for a leaky tire (fixed with that green goo), it has been trouble-free. I'm glad to have found a web site dedicated to the green machines/.
