I bought a Hobart Handler140 the other day, mainly for the 115v and the availability in this area. I never took a shine to squirt guns, but n ever used anything this small. After trying it out with flux-core I do believe I could convert fairly quick. If the need arises the old red tombstone is still in the shed, ready and willing. No pics yet.
WOW! I was just on TSC web page today looking at the 115v welders and thinking about starting a thread to get some input from people that really know how to weld. I was looking at the Hobart 210mvp(899.99). It can work on 115v or 240v, sense I don't have a 240 plug but plan to get one some day, I thought this might be the way to go. On the other hand I have herd people say the 115v buzz boxes don't have enough power to do anything substantial and I would be better off waiting till I was set up for 240v. Just a Note, I don't really need a welder, but would like to have one, I know the basics to welding and have some several field repairs but I would not win any awards on my welding skills...:flag_of_truce:
Thanks for starting this thread hope to get some good conversation out of it.:thumbup1gif:
I got a Hobart 140 and have gone through several spools of flux core wire. I am not a profesional, but this thing does the job for me. I hope to try some gas with it someday. I'm always learning evey time I fire it up. For the price, it is my pick. KHOP:thumbup1gif:
I have used a Miller 135 for years with great success and only recently moved to the 212. In that time I have completed many projects. Buying a new tractor and needing to work with some heavier material is one of the reasons for the upgrade.
Here is a pic of a woodrack I built with the 135 last year. I used 2"x 3/16" sq.tubing. It holds a little over a chord of wood...so at least 3500lbs. I have scooted the rack almost loaded across the yard with no trouble.racking ,etc. So....the little 115 welders are great! I am keeping mine to be able to take it on jobsites. (BTW,I used solid wire and mixed gas)
I've got everything but time. The welder came with gas setup. I'm just spending too much time doing projects that normally don't get worked on in mid January. A new Speedco post hole digger model 70, yesterday a KK XBTiller, and raised strawberry beds. I'll settle down soon and post regarding the new equipment. Most mig welding I've experienced is stainless steel and it isn't food grade as required where I work. Tig is my baby.
