Pallet Fork Attachment Point Design

797 Views 13 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  cc1999
I have been shopping pallet forks and have noticed two different approaches to the attachment points on the fork frame. One has the attachment points flat to the back of the frame. The other has the attachment points on an angle. Any thoughts on what you may gain or lose with either approach?

The only difference I can see is the angled attachment would allow the forks to be tipped up a bit more before the lift cylinders bottomed out as compared to the vertical attachment. Likewise, the degree to which you could point the forks down would be less with the angled attachment.

Mine are vertical not angled. I wish they were angled to tilt back a big more when carrying heavy logs because when low to the ground, there isn't much tilt.

As @jgayman mentioned, it will only affect the rollback angle and dump angle. With that said, I have a set of flat back forks, when I used them on my 2038R with the MSL I could only roll them back to just a couple of degrees beyond horizontal. So, if you have the MSL on your tractor that is an important factor to look at. Buying today I would definitely look for the angled attach point regardless of which type of loader I have, I think rollback is more important than dump angle when it comes to forks, others may disagree.

It sounds like the increase in rollback is enough of a reason to go that route. Thanks for the confirmation!

Any idea if the Tartert PFQA 3000# is angled or vertical? Pallet Fork 3000 - Tarter USA

i can’t find images that show me the back side of the frame.

Huge thanks!

If I'm not mistaken, that fork set looks like it has a skid steer mount (SSQA). Which is pretty much vertical.

The Tartar www copy says:

“The heavy-duty 42” steel forks are heat-treated for superior strength and durability. This do-it-all pallet fork is fully adjustable, thanks to spring-loaded latches that allow fork spacing up to 37”. The Universal Quick-Attach works great on tractors outfitted with compatible front-end loaders”.

Am i mistaken that this means JD QA compatible?

Thanks a ton for your assistance!

Tracy
I would assume it’s SSQA from that description, not JDQA. Shame they can’t use standard terminology so as to eliminate confusion.
Yeah, I’m getting that impression. Thanks Kenny! I called Tarter and all the cust service person wanted to do was read me the item dimensions. WTF. i like the EA 48” but shipping is 400 bucks to me in WA. Even to a loading dock at a business. Ouch. Might have to land on the Frontier/JD AF12 which i was trying to avoid.
I do like my Deere forks; frame quality seems better than my titan set.

I have not priced the AF fork frames in the past year, but they use to be very reasonable, when compared to the total cost of some of the others on the market with shipping added in.

There also some interesting looking fork grapple kits also now being offered for the AF series forks.
They are called the PG11 and PG12.

PG12 for use on the AF12 or AG12 fork frames.

PG11 for use on the AF10 and AF11 forks frames

They can be left on the fork frame and locked back out of the way;
I am really seeing some potential benefits of this.

Good assumption. Especially since JDQA is proprietary to JD and not "Universal" at all. The only attachment method that even comes close to universal is SSQA.

Well after awful Tarter customer service (trying to get details on the pallet forks), 400 in shipping costs from EA, similar shipping costs from Premier as my ’local’ dealer was 3 hours away and they don’t stock the item, i landed on just going back to square one and buying the JD AP12F.

Thanks for everyones thoughts on the topic, as always much appreciated.

Nice!
Good choice!

I ordered a new AP12G for my 5125R this week. Along with a PG12 to mount on it.
The AP12G was $1600.00
The PG12 was $1000.00
Not sure how good a deal I made,
I know pretty much anything has gone way up in price over the past couple years.

The F is for JDQA mounting In the AP12F.
The G is global mounting in the AP12G.
