The need has come to start overseeding and reseeding some pastures and fields. Of course, doing so by hand is not an optimal way to go about doing this for such a large area.

I started by looking at the 3pt seeder options from the local farm stores. They wanted over 600 bucks for a model with a poly tank, which is ridiculous. I immediately turned to craigslist and found a lightly used, all metal, pto driven 3pt seeder for close to 300. Never had lime or fertilizer through it, and is minimally rusty (only surface rust on the spinner and bottom of the cone, which is expected). I picked it up today. Heres some quick pics- ill get more when I start using it. I still have some field prep to do first.

The only thing that's confusing is that there are 2 levers to control seed output. Anyone know whats up with that?

Is one lever to open & close the dump chute, and the other to control the size of the dump chute opening?

My poly landpride spreader has two levers but each one opens a gate for seed. I keep them linked together so they open the same amount. I'm not that picky on how much one or the other puts out.

I think one lever is to set the volume out of the main gate and the other controls the width of the "throw" as my 3 point spreader will throw from a minimum of about 24 feet up to about 40 plus feet............

That would be my "guess".................

I need to put a 12 volt electric actuator to help open and close the spreader on my tractor as the bouncing of the tractor tends to close the main distribution gate and with the cab, its a pain to get off and manually open it. If you leave the rear window of the cab open, it will throw fertilizer into the cab and of course, that's not ideal............Something on the scale of the snow blower discharge chute deflection angle actuator.......

There are 3 total levers, one to open the flow of seed and 2 to meter it. The meter levers have a scale that you can see how much seed you'll put down. Its the white looking part between the levers in the 3rd pic.

been doing some food plot seeding this week with mine......on mine i can reach the 2 levers from the tractor seat since they stick up, they just open two seed gates and adjust seed rate on the fly......does it have the extended agitator in the seed bin?...300$ is about what good used ones go for around here also...

true test of one is can it meter Timothy seed down to the correct rates ....mine requires i duct tape one of the seed ports totally closed :)
