Just purchased a dump wagon. It has a pintle or military hook-up and runs off tractor hydraulic lines. I need to attach a pintle hitch to the tractor draw bar but can't find one that just pins or bolts into the draw bar. Don't wish to weld on. Anybody know of anything that will work?

Thanks

I have never seen a pintle that would hook directly to a drawbar. But I think I guy could take a piece of heavy angle and bolt the pintle to that and the angle to the drawbar. Might want to add a few gussets or add an angle on the top and bottom so the pintle is more centered on the drawbar.

Be an easy mount to build and would allow you to bolt the hitch on.

While it might be easy to build, will your angles on the trailer be good with the hitch that low? With a trailer, its nice to be able to adjust the height of the front hits for moving over obstacles, or even just for loading and unloading.

I would suggest one attached to your three point hitch.

I think it is called a hammer strap which botls to the top of the drawbar offsets upward and has another similar sized hole for the pin. That would do it for you and wouldn't flip up like the standard three point hitch technique if the back of the wagon got heavier. Assuming it isn't like a four wheel hay wagon. I made one because the dealer quoted me over $ 300 for the device but later on I think he quoted me the offset drawbar as the hammerstrap was like $75-80 as I recall.

Or you could do like some receiver hitch which has a bar to go into the hitch and a plate with eight holes to bolt the pintle hitch to in a few different elevations. Just make something to bolt to the existing drawbar holes or sorce material similar dimentions to the drawbar.

The wagon is rated for 5 tons, so when dumping all the weight will be on the back. Three-point hitch hook-up likely not going to work. What I really need is a 2x2 hitch that is strong and bolts or pins to the draw bar. Does anybody make that, and where can I get one?

Thanks

Looking for the jaw side, the round end is on the trailer. I think Fran is on the right trail. If I can find a hammer strap, I can just run a big pin through the holes. The tongue can hit the hammer strap when it comes up during dumping, and rest on the draw bar during transport. I'm picking the trailer up Monday, I will see how it lines up with my drawbar height (17 inches). I will not have any adjustment.

Thanks for the help. I will let you know how it works out.

Something else to consider. When you use the draw bar you will loose some turning radius do to the tractor tires will hit the tung of the tralier, if you us the 3ph you gain this turning radius+. You have plenty of machine to do this, yes you will have to chain the lift links as in Brians pic or come up with a hitch like Randys.
Just my .02 from past expierance.

Contact Sunova Implement. They are and equipment importer and dealer, Veenhuis dump wagons for one. They also use a pintle , so they should be able to help you out with sourcing a draw bar for your tractor.

Used The Pintle Hitch Today

Finished the sleeve for the draw bar and used the pintle hitch today. Used half inch plate to drop hitch 5 inches to better level dump wagon. I used 1 1/8" pin and 3/4" grade 8 bolt to attach sleeve to draw bar. Welded nut to bottom of sleeve so I only have to screw bolt in and not fool with the nut.

Pintle hitch is great. The trailer is an 8 ton dump and I loaded as much dirt as I could load. All worked great.

I really appreciate all the ideas and experience that is shared at GTT. Saved me a lot of time and I think I got it right the first time.

Looks good. You got me thinking about how to attach a receiver hitch tube to the drawbar. Your system gets the pintle hook closer than doing that would allow. I might suggest you put a category two to three lift arm bushing on the pin. That would raise the end of the pin away form the angled piece of steel so it would only have the normal kind of forces on it. Not sure if the pin would work up and down as pictured.

Stickfarm, it really looks nice. as I read the thread I was not quite sure what you finally did. did you manufacture this sleeve yourself or did you actually purchase something ready made or was it a combo of both? I am just curious since this might be something nice to have and especially if it was made so that it would take a 2" reciever. Then one could several types of hitches on it.

thanks

Rob
