Last year I took it into my dealer.... they fixed it. This year... same thing... PTO won't start, although it did start for about 2 seconds when I pulled up on the yellow knob (reverse bypass momentary position)... but only once.
Yes... I've checked the lever for front/mid/rear and have moved it to all positions. When PTO knob is engaged (pulled up) the light on the dash comes on but no PTO. When I lift off the seat the tractor dies when PTO switch is out (tractor in nuetral).

Has anyone fixed this? Other than just taking it to the dealer? Is RIO delete possibly the answer?

When I search for an answer I find a lot of info about bypassing or deleting the RIO... which is OK with me. What is the function of the RIO solenoid? Does it engage when reverse is sensed or is it always engaged and killed when reverse is pushed?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

A couple of questions for you.

You say you get no PTO but also mentioned that it did come on momentarily when you pulled up the RIO control.

What happens if you start the machine, select REAR PTO ONLY and enable the PTO?

That should start the rear PTO and, if you are in neutral, you should be able to get off the seat and the machine should stay running.

Try those, see what happens and report back!

Other misc info:

The dash light should come on as soon as the PTO engage knob is pulled up. Because of the way it is wired in, that's all it really means.

The same wire off the PTO engage switch that feeds that light also feeds the main A1 control module that runs the whole 2032R. That A1 control combines the PTO engagement switch, RIO detection relay, neutral position sensor and Rear PTO selector sensor. If all are in the correct positions, the A1 control module then sends a signal to activate the PTO control relay (K14. It is located under the dash right in front of your cruise control lever!) to start the PTO.

1. Yes, it worked momentarily, once. I can't get it to repeat.

2.I just checked. When I started the tractor, put it in low, shifted to rear PTO only and pulled yellow switch... it worked! So... I stopped PTO(pushed yellow switch) shifted to mid position (both) pulled switch ... nothing. So... went back to rear PTO only... now it doesn't work. Gremlins?

3. I double checked... seat switch turns off tractor if in gear, or If PTO on... not in gear... Tractor remains running if both in neutral and get off seat.

4. I'm thinking loose connector after that testing. Or failing yellow switch that hasn't completely failed yet???

5. Thanks for your input.

I think your PTO switch (the yellow knob) is probably fine.

I suspect that the position sensor for your PTO selector lever is the issue. It isn't sensing that you have selected rear PTO only all of the time. #3 is the biggest clue here. You are supposed to be able to start the machine, engage the rear (only!) PTO, put it in neutral and get off the seat with the machine still running. You are supposed to be able to do that to run a wood chipper, for example.

I'll have to look in the service manual and try to figure out where that sensor switch is physically located!

Ooops! I forgot something. Please check one more time.

Start the machine, put in neutral, select rear PTO only, engage PTO, SET PARKING BRAKE LEVER and THEN try getting up off the seat.

It should stay running.

Yes... that works correctly.

Funny thing... now that I can get off while rear PTO engaged... it was running, slowly. Then when I shut it off to shift to mid/rear, it wouldn't run any more. I shifted back to rear only... shifter got 'stuck' in rear position. I drove around a bit and it released and shifts again.

I didn't know lemons could be green...

Edit... just went back out to check fluid level window near rear PTO shaft... OK

Ok! So if that works, that means your PTO switch (the yellow knob), the seat switch, brake lever switch and neutral safety switch are all working as they are supposed to.

And if you were only idling then the rear PTO should be spinning pretty slow. You'd have to get the machine up to rated RPM (~2500) to get the rear PTO shaft to spin at 540 RPM.

But you still have no mid-PTO? At this point I'd try to do the RIO bypass and see what happens. If it works that'd mean that your RIO sensor is either broken or out of position. If it doesn't then there is a problem with your PTO solenoid or there is a hard mechanical problem inside your tranny case.

OK.

I've seen 3 options for RIO bypass.

1. Change wiring at switch

2. Tye wrap around RIO switch

3. Jumper at plug, at RIO switch.... leave unplugged.

I think the switch on my 2015 2032r is behind right rear wheel... correct?

Which option is best ? or. Which options for my tractor?

Could the reverse pedal be out of adjustment. So the tractor thinks reverse is being depressed and won't enable the mid PTO? Just a thought

My 2015 2025R did the same thing. Not sure if the switch on the reverse pedal is setup the same, but I would look there. Mine was underneath the tractor. I had gotten a piece of a tree branch jammed under there and bent the bracket, which wouldn't allow the reverse pedal bracket to properly activate the switch. I put a zip tie over the switch, and bent the bracket back. No problems since, and easy to dismantle if I choose.

If you can access the pto switch behind the dash, it's super quick and easy to bypass the rio with a jumper wire. I'd try that.

WELL.... mowed for 2 hours... then tractor stopped running.... turn key no click , no lights. It had a blown 10amp fuse. So... replaced the fuse, it started and mowed fine.... until I stepped on reverse.

I couldn't see any thing wrong with the jumper... but I decided to tye wrap it up to another wiring loom... instead off letting it hang. Problem solved ... the tractor has worked fine since. :good2:

Update.... still mowing' !!!

Gotta say.... if you haven't bypassed the RIO PITA .... you don't know what you're missing, it's almost fun to mow now. :good2:
Yep. RIO is always the first thing I bypass on lawn equipment. I understand why they put it there, but it absolutely doesn't take into account the effect on use of the machine.

I have a 2032R

Mine did the same thing last Saturday. Ran for about 10 seconds while running rear pto snowblower then just shut off and would only resume after shutting off the engine and restarting.

Found the SMALLEST twig between the bracket and reverse sensor behind the rear right tire. Literally was 3/32" in size, removed it and working perfectly! I guess those sensors are sensitive!:greentractorride:

I had the problem last year and bypassed the RIO switch at the linkage, but it just started again today. I took the dash off and tested the switch and it tests good. Start tractor, engage pto (in any of the three selections) and it runs for about 30 seconds and quits. Shut down and restart tractor and it works again for about 30 seconds.

Are there any other possible solutions that i have overlooked?

there is a safety switch under one of the pedal that falls out of adjustment that give us fits last year

Just happen to my 2015 - JD2032R, start out the day is fine, spend over an hour cutting grass, stop the machine for about 10 min to refuel, after the refuel, continue cutting grass, engage the PTO, the mower ran for about 1 minute than quit, can not turn it back on unless I turn off the unit and it keep repeat like that finally give up, the sun start getting hot, I part the tractor on my drive way, I used the garden horse watch to removed all dirt pack around the rear wheel and the same thing I found a dry leave stuck, remove it, start up the tractor, after that engage PTO so far it not cut out any more, I will fine out for sure in the morning when the temp get a little cooler.
