It is true that larger JD's have a larger 1000 rpm shaft. It is 1 3/4" and 20 splines. But, it is not limited to JD. As far as I know, all makes use this larger shaft. It is because the larger horsepower tractors not only have the ability to twist the shafts, they also have the ability to damage the smaller equipment. The equipment designed to work with higher horsepower has the larger shaft to mate to the tractor. There are however, adapters available to convert down to smaller shaft as long as you understand the limitations.
