Hey guys & gals,
Is there a farmer's secret to aligning the spines on the PTO as I reattach it to tractor so I can use this tiller?

Place the PTO selector in front PTO spot. Then, you can rotate the PTO by hand to get the splines lined up. THEN can pull back collar/push button (depending on type) to push the PTO onto the shaft.
Thank you Ralph. We had no instruction from dealership on "Tractor 101". My biggest problem was I could not turn the PTO by hand to line up the splines. It was stuck. But many suggestions from this site saved the day! And your suggestion of the "order" in which to proceed is a great one so maybe I won't be fumbling so much next time.
Thanks for being available.
You can't turn the tractor side PTO shaft by hand on the 3E from what I've read so you'll have to be able to turn it on the implement.
Yes Trav, you are absolutely right. Had to actually move the tiller blades. Thank you!

You're welcome! I'm waiting for my 3032E to come in so I have read about everything I can find on them.

I have a 3046r and cannot turn the PTO by hand because I've never installed the "mid PTO" kit but have it ready to install maybe next time I change the hydraulic fluid but in the meanwhile I purchased the extendable 3 point arms which helps a lot with hooking up heavy implements.

Got PTO attached & working!
We are up & running earlier this morning.
Picking the tiller up off the ground & turning the blades slightly with foot made PTO shaft turn just enough to get in-line for hook-up.
I really like that idea of blocks of wood for vertical resting/holding in place prior to hook up.
It did feel like I needed another set of hands! And more strength! I am only a woman🤪🤣 but kept telling myself - the machine should do the work!

This is a great site!
Thanks so much to everyone who replied. Us newbies always have questions. And I love the comments & compliments!
By the way, it was my 64th birthday. Coming late to farming but have wanted to be here my whole life. God's grace got me here! Onward!
You will learn a lot from this site and using your tractor. There are all sorts of little "tricks" that take the place of brute strength. For example, if one lift arm is adjustable and the other is fixed- hook up the fixed one first. But if you forget, and the adjustable one is connected when you adjust that one the "fixed" arm will move in the opposite direction.

Another tip is if you don't back up perfectly square to an implement, hook up one lift arm to the implement making sure it's the one closest to the tractor. Then use the top link to pull the other one into alignment. The leverage on the top link takes much less strength than moving a heavy implement.

I suppose you might also start up the tractor, then engage/disengade the PTO, shut down and hope the PTO splines stop in a better position for hookup.
