Thinking about trying a rear blade to remove snow on my short driveway and parking area.
Everything is high in my area: tractors and apparently implements.
I did locate a leftover Frontier RB1072 rear blade at a dealer. It's been sitting outside in the weather so that initially I thought it was a used blade. The dealer seems to be carrying a lot of Landpride implements instead of the more costly Frontier line.
The dealer wants $550 which I think might be asking a little to much, but he is holding to that price. I've seen some on Machine Finder that are as high as $850

Any thoughts?

After doing the requisite searching it appears I would be best served by getting some kind of shoes/skid to keep the balde up off the gravel surface, that option is about $120.

PS I am running turf tires not loaded no chains, and cleaned up this last storm of heavy wet snow. The tractor only spun once when my front tire(s) slipped a little over a small edge toard a small ditch. Put her in $wd and backed right out.

That's about what I paid for my RB1072 as I recall. Get a set of the end plates for it as it makes it more versatile for controlling where the spoils go.

I am starting to warm up to the idea. One thing I really think I need are the skid/shoes to help on my gravel. Spent last evening and today hoping to find somewhere/someplace that might have skid/shoes for the RB1072.
The only thing listed on the JD web site is for the RB2072 and JD is asking $201 ouch. Maybe they are the same as snowplow shoes(mushroom type) but I can't find any pictures. My guess is that they bolt on to the empty "holes" in the blade.

Well I did locate the RB1072 in JD parts and can see just how the skidshoe mounts. I tried to add it to the "cart" and the part number (5wd18300) shows invalid?

I did manage to add a couple of individual parts and very quickly the price for just a few parts exceeds the cost of a new RB1072. Apparently the optional kits are now longer available?

Thought perhaps this RB1072 was made by Woods. I found a Woods rear blade with what looks like the same skidshoe package. Still a high cost of $244.80

shoes

Preacher here, the shoes for the RB2072 are the mushroom type and they are extremely heavy duty. I think around 20# a piece. I don't think they can be wore out. I just put them on my RB2072 and also got the end plates. I'm still waiting for some snow to see how it works. I have the mushroom type on my 4 wheeler and love them. I hope this helps.:bye:

bumped into a used LandPride RB1572 on line this evening. Seller thinks it's about 5-8 years old. Priced good. $375. Skid shoes appear to be available for about $150.
Not sure if these are iMatch quick hitch compatable or not. Owner uses just a 3ph.

Guess I am either getting cheap in my old age or maybe I have always been that way:mocking:

LandPride is supposed to have a good reputation any thoughts?

Land Pride=Good stuff. Go for it! It should be iMatch compatible also since they make their own version of that as well.

Thanks Ken. Doesn't look to bad in the photo other than out in the weather.

I like Land Pride stuff, looks like a good unit for the price. Personaly if I ever buy a rear blade it will have to have a tilt feature on it, just my preferance.
Good luck with what ever you get.:good2:

Has15, couldn't you just use your 3pt to tilt the blade? Or do you need/want more extreme angles?

For cutting ditchs and swales a tilt blade is faster and also easier to pull one pin to tilt the blade rather than tilting the whole carrage. plus you can switch to another impliment such as a box blade with out having to relevel it.
Just my thoughts, and please call me Jeff, long:boring: story to the Has15...

Jeff, sorry I had thought originally that you meant tilt forward or back, not side to side. Makes a lot more sense now

The skid shoes kits are sold through the sales department as "Whole goods." Check with your salesman to see if they are still available. The same goes for the end plates being sold by sales.

I have a Land Pride quick-hitch and it's very well built. As I recall, the company makes their implements QH compatible. I would definitely consider LP for any future implements.

Just a late wrap up to my original post. I finally unloaded my trailer and have things undercover the way I like them!

has15 had commented about the tilt feature, and it struck a cord with me so I kept searching craigslist etc., for rear blades.

So after failing to find anything better I returned to the JD dealer, made an offer that was accepted for the leftover, but weathered Frontier RB1072 , AKA Woods RB72.

I also had lusted over, but gave up some time ago on a new LandPride box blade BB1560 after getting a quote of $900. Ouch !
When I returned to the dealer to make my offer on the rear blade I noticed that some (not all) of the LandPride implements had sale tags on them. That was unusual for this JD dealer. I had managed to walk into an inventory clearance sale without knowing it. :yahoo:

The BB1560 was not on markedown, but his only BB1554 was marked down over $200, and I could not resist.
Both will get a little paint touch up when the weather warms up here.
I also just received my skid shoes order for the rear blade, although they are painted black I am sure they must be made of gold (cost) with black spray paint on top. They are quite beefy, and weigh 36lbs each. I included the dimentions as I know there are people on here that are quite handy custom making things.

Once again thanks for all the information, suggestions, including the addition of bushings to make them both fit my iMatch quick hitch.

Good deal. Now get yourself the end plates for the rear blade. Once you have them, you'll be even more pleased with the rear blade and what it can do.

I think you'll be happier with the tilt option on this blade. For scraping snow and leveling dirt I really love being able to pull that pin and have the blade just follow the contours of the ground underneath. That's my main use of the tilt, otherwise I generally tilt the blade with the 3pt where I have more control over smaller angles.

That's exactly how I use the blade's tilt option too.
