i have 1500 hard hours on my 3 series. no leaks. Looking at your pictures i wouldnt call that a leak either. You will know hen its tie to fix a leak. Unles you want to tear tractor apart for no reason. I think some people just go into panic mode and work themselves up for nothing. Just drive the tractor and enjoy life. it will let you know when you need to relace a seal. Thats a tiny s heck wet spot. Show me a tractor that is actually used that doesnt have a few. unless of course the guy that buy them and actually wash the front end loader bucket ith a sponge and then repaint it after each use. yes ther is a few of those around

That tractor looks like it should still be under warranty if he is concerned about a “leak”

that tractor is spotless to say the least.. what it looks like to me is possibly the assembly lube or grease got hot and turned to liquid and ran down the housing

Unfortunately, it's a leak. It drips down onto the the wheel while I'm using the tractor. While I agree that it is a small leak right now there's no predicting when it will become a big leak but (most likely) that will be when I'm knee deep in a big job or project and really need the tractor.

From the way it was titled and his post, kinda sounded like to me it wasnt a warranty. unless of course warranty to you means fix it yourself. but hey, to each their own.

that thing is extremely clean for 7 years old
Thanks Tursky4, I usually give my machines a good detailing every fall before winter sets in to clean up the summers dirt.

Once all clean, its easier to give everything a good mechanical "look over" to check for any loose or damaged fasteners, excessive wear etc. Here is a picture of her getting the once over last winter.

I’ll be honest idk if I’m more impressed with the tractor or how clean your garage is haha
I own a construction company and my garage looks like a Home Depot threw up inside it

Oh, I have a space like that Tursky4. You have to have a place to do real work in right? I just try to keep most everything I can out of the actual garage that connects to the house.

Has anyone changed a rear axle seal in their 3 series?

This may be a good time for me to order a service manual so I know what I will be getting myself into. View attachment 799948 View attachment 799949
Agreed on the axle oil leak as well as purchasing a service manual. I recall you mentioning this leak a little while back.

Oil leak
Apparently it's getting worse.

So the OP's tractor is leaking and yours isn't. What's your point? The OP prefers to maintain his equipment and you don't. Again, what's your point? It's his investment and I didn't see where he was seeking an opinion about anything other than the rear axle oil leak.

Once again and for the second time in two days you're getting in the middle of a thread with no pertinent experience or advice to offer. You seem to have a challenge staying on point. Let me give you some advice. Don't be a thread troll.

Good idea to handle it before it becomes worse or leaves you stranded. You're likely going to have to reduce the hydro fluid level before removing the axle stub, flange, bearing and seal assembly. It might be a good idea to take care of the hydro fluid maintenance at the same time as the axle oil seal service.

Good luck!

Thanks Super, I plan to do the 400 hour service when I tackle this leak and I have the fluids and filters at the ready.

Just hoping that someone has gone down this road before and might know what bumps and curves I could encounter.

As for Shortthrow's comments, I took no offense but also gained nothing from his post.;)

Nothing that help you with your leak but I want to commend you for taking such good care or your equipment. I though I was the only one who detailed my tractor a couple times a year? (Also a 3039r) Glad I am not the only one.

My Tractor needs one of those cleaning. I use it everyday I am off work. Trying to get a shop built. I will be retiring at the end of OCT and I hope to join your crew on keeping thing clean. The idea about a shop manual is a great idea. There is a lot of knowledge it that book. (Pictures as well)
