Rear snowblower hydraulic chute on JD4400

7573 Views 15 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Kennyd
Hi
First post for me.

I have an old Mod 240, 6' snow blower that had a manual chute. I have fabricated a hydraulic chute actuator. My 4400 came with the backhoe hydraulic hook up. Question is what do I need to do to raise and lower the blower and rotate the chute. Has anyone done this with their tractor/blower? Is it possible to Tee off of the backhoe hook ups?

Thanks in advance,

Scott

Welcome to DT!

This is a rear mounted 3PH blower correct?

Then you only need one new circuit to control your chute rotation since the 3HP does the lifting and lowering. Or did I misunderstand your question:
what do I need to do to raise and lower the blower and rotate the chute.
The best option would be to get he factory "3rd SCV kit" for your tractor, you actually already have the valve part (its made on the the loader valve) but no way to control it.
Here is the part number:
BM19694KIT3RD SCV

And you must get it through the sales department, not parts. Kit's are getting rare though, and they do turn up on eBay quite often. I attached a picture below.

The other option is to buy a new valve, than figure out how/where to mount it, then buy the proper fittings, QD's and hoses to connect it to the PB line that feeds the backhoe. All in all it will probably cost more, look worse, and be a lot more work to add than the 3rd SCV kit I mentioned above.

PS>I moved this thread to the Hydraulics Forum since that is what the post is really about.

Welcome to DT Scott.

Kenny is the resident hydraulics guru, and he's right about those kits being scarce as I had a hell of a time getting mine for my 4200 a few years ago.

The backhoe hookup you mention is a Power Beyond circuit to supply hydraulic oil to the backhoe. As Kenny said, you need a SCV arrangement to control the chute.

blower chute

Thank you Kenny and MJ.

I'm sure your right, the kit is the best way to go. Just costly! What about installation, Kenny. I am mechanical and it would save a bundle. Are there installation instructions available?

thanks

Scott:

I doubt you'll save much cash by piece mealing a system together from generic hydraulic system parts. I definitely know you'll spend 2.5x the cost of the Deere kit by ordering the Deere parts individually.

Attached is the 3rd SCV manual I have.

The kit should cost about $250-$300 IIRC, like MJ wrote it's not much more than piecing a setup together, and it will look a lot better also. It's a easy addition, like I wrote- you already have the valve.

What else where doing? All that does not need to come off to install the kit!
Scv 4400

Thank you Kennyd right you are had forgotten I did both power beyond and SCV would agree about getting a kit Easy to follow instructions lots of parts and lots of highly bent hydraulic tubing For a novice well worth the cost
Hydraulic chute kit

Thanks to all for your time. I'm on a search for a kit!

Scott, I would love to see pictures of how you did the hydro conversion on the blower, I saw that JD has/had a kit in JDParts, I assume you made you own?
home made hydraulic chute

hi Kenny

I'll forward you some pics in the am. The set up was very easy to construct. Cost about $40 in parts not counting a cylinder I had been given. I did some welding but you could have done the complete installation by bolting the components to the blower. Works great, by hand, so need to find a 3rd SCV kit.

Nice job Scott, why the Tee on the one end of the cylinder?

Tee on cylinder

The tee is not needed. Just the way it was given to me. The tee is plugged on one end. I have the lines ready to make up when I get the kit installed. Made up my mind tonight, will order the kit from JD tomorrow. Tried to find one elsewhere but no luck and time is getting short before snow arrives. JD has them for $298. More than I was hoping to pay.

I can tell you from experience, you would pay that or more trying to build a remote from aftermarket parts. The money will seem cheap the first time you can quickly direct that blowing snow away from you on a cold dark windy night.
