Hello guys, i've got hold of an old JD RX63 with an bad motor.
Do you know what engine you can replace it with? Thinks its an Kawasaki 6hp on it now.
Sorry for my bad grammar, greetings from Sweden :)

Normally I prefer people to Small Engine Warehouse: John Deere Outdoor Power Equipment Repower from Small Engine Warehouse, for their engine repowers. But it looks like SEW doesn't have any recommendations for an RX63 repower. That being said, the RX73 and RX75 both used Kawasaki engines with an one inch crankshaft. I would think the RX63 uses the same set up, so that's a place to start. Try to get the engine model number and post that, and then we should be able to offer better advice.

In the meantime, here is an used RX63 with a Honda GXV270 engine on it: http://www.tractorhouse.com/listingsdetail/detail.aspx?OHID=6785087&. I'm sure that is a replacement engine on that one.

I'm pretty sure there's an original Kawasaki engine on the rx63, unfortunaly it's in my cabin so i can't go out and check... but if its a one inch crankshaft, this engine would fit to?

I don't know if it will fit, but it's a walk behind lawn mower engine. It might be under powered to run a rear engine rider. Also, the reviews aren't good: Engine Reviews

Hello again!
Now I've got the JD to my home, did a small check-up, carburator, intake and fuelsystem and then started the engine.
After a lot of pulls I finaly got it started, but after a while the exhaust gas turned white, and some oilsplatters came from the exhaustsystem.
Probably a failed piston ring or seal?

And when I engaged the clipper (don't know the exact term for this, but the blades that do the business :) ) the engine died straight away. You can turn the blades by hand, and if you ease the lever you can get the blades to spin a little, but when you engage it fully the engine will die.

Is it because the engine isn't working proparly?

The "clipper" is called the PTO (power take off). If it's dying when you engage the PTO, it may be due to a safety switch. There should be a seat safety switch, a neutral start switch, a PTO safety switch, and perhaps a brake safety switch. Check these switches to see if they're working properly. Having an electrical schematic will help you troubleshoot if it is an electrical problem. If you don't have one, I'll try and see if I can find one.

I would like to bump this old thread, life got in the way of the engine search but now I'm back on track again :)

After some digging i've found out that the engine is a FA210V, it has a 1 inch crankshaft.

The engine has NO compression and it seams the cylinder has been bored to much. I cant find any replacement cylinders either.
So I'm looking for an old used engine or a new one who fits.

Does an engine from the RX73/RX95 work?
