Replacing seals in a 260 backhoe control valve

1591 Views 8 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Kennyd
I have a 2305 tractor with a 260 backhoe. When I removed the backhoe last November, all functions worked fine. I am now attempting to reinstall the backhoe but now none of the functions work. Pressure from the tractor's hydraulic hose appears to be fine so I believe the seals in the backhoe control valve are faulty. Can someone point me to a shop manual/diagram that explains how to replace the seals? Thanks

Bill, The seals in your control valve only control external fluid leakage. I would suspect an issue with your quick disconnects. With tractor not running, disconnect and reconnect disconnects. Bob
One more item! Go here https://partscatalog.deere.com/ and put "260" in Model Search box. You'll find EVERY hose, fitting, and part on your hoe. It takes a little getting used to to navigate around, but it's a great source of info. Bob

Do the levers move? If it was siting outside the linkages could be rusted.

Hello Bob – Thanks for your email. There are only two quick disconnects (one male & one female) which I have disconnected and reconnected multiple times with no change and no fluid leakage. When the backhoe is not on the tractor, the hydraulic hose that would connect to the backhoe connects to the tractor and the 3 point hitch functions without issue. I would bring the tractor and backhoe to my dealer but I have no way of getting the backhoe on the tractor with the hydraulics working. Any troubleshooting or other thoughts you my have would be appreciated.

Thanks again for your help,
Bill Ifkovic

Hmm, Let me first say I'm not at all familiar with the 2305 or the 260! BUT, I am familiar with hydraulic systems in general.
So! If everything works as it should when the hoses are connected to the 3-pt, that means nothing is wrong with the hoses or disconnects...possibly. I'd try one more thing. Tractor not running, loosen the disconnect on the tractor side of the return line from backhoe valve... not sure which hose that would be, but typically the line with the male connector on the hose. Start tractor and I would think you should have a good leak at that fitting. If so, that guarantees the disconnects are OK. That only leaves the linkage and the 2 relief valves. I can't figure out the linkage from the part catalog, but I'll suggest trying to open one up to determine if the spools are actually moving. I find it hard to believe that all 6 spools stopped working at once, but who knows! The only other item would be the 2 relief valves. Contact your dealer and ask if he can test the relief valves... when removed.

'Bout all I can think of. Sorry I can't be more specific. Bob

Thank you Bob - This is a big help.

Your dealer won't send a tech to your place to look at it on site?
I've merged the two threads together for continuity.

I asked above if the levers move, you never answered?
