Hello,
I have a great old JD 240 LT that has a blown motor.
The code is FC 420V-CS00
Ser # FC420 V 014372
Pr Id # M00240B496779
It has weighted wheels/chains and a Johnny bucket Jr.
The shop I brought it to can't find a replacement motor.
I am neither a motorhead nor good with computers
The local dealers are no help.
I have found 3 motors on Ebay that might work but
they have a different code. FC420 V- DS00
while my code is ....... FC420 V CS00
I believe they are all from 170's

Can anyone tell me if the DS00 code motors will work for my 240?
Or possibly direct me to a motor that will work?

I apologize if I have violated any rules but I have trying for weeks
and have come here as pretty much a last resort.
I have come to understand just how vital a good running tractor
is a part of my everyday life and I really miss Mudge" the tractors name".
Many thanks
Michael

Hopefully someone will reply with an answer soon!

Do you have any pictures of your current engine?

I’m pretty sure it’s plug and play, but worst case you just change a connector at the engine. 3-4 terminal.

Many Thanks to you and those that helped me along the way.
I spoke with Stewart at small engine warehouse and he confirms
that the motor will work and has everything needed.
Its more than I hoped to spend but its brand new
and buying a motor off ebay is really a crapshoot.
Not that they are dishonest about it running well, sitting.
My motor would only die after after 20 odd minutes
under load, mowing.
May your spark plugs never foul...
Thanks
Michael

CJ, what's your location? I just saw a FC420 on my local Craigslist (Southern NH) for $125. Personally I would do everything I could to NOT put a B&S into anything I own. You're much better off with a Kawasaki.
