Don't have the Deck for it yet but I just wanted it mainly as a Lawn Tractor to pull things around including me on the place. It is a 1990 Craftsman's II 18 HP 42" Cut lawn Tractor. Got new tires for the back coming and new for the front already here. Should be a easy restore except I am painting it JD Green and Wrinkle Finish Black and no decals or Craftsman name they will be sanded off. Got all the tin off, rear tires off the rims and painted waiting for the new ones. Should look cool when done and one of my easiest to do. Since I changed the seat out on my new JD4044M to a different style I am putting the old one on this one. I tried it out bolted right up to the older seats bracket and felt so much better to sit on! I will update the project as I do it. Here is a few pictures. Least the getting it running first part is done and the engine runs nice! 100_1702.jpg 100_1717.jpg 100_1703.jpg 100_1790.jpg 100_1791.jpg 100_1792.jpg 100_1794.jpg 100_1796.jpg All in All for 29 years old and not cleaned up yet it is in great shape! Don't make them this solid no more there is a fair amount of steel in the frame!

Moving Right Along almost all Painted

All but the front rims and area under the engine are painted now. Got most of the painting done today. All primed and top coated. Soon I will put it back together. Just waiting on my rear tires so I can take it off the jack stands. Turning out OK for a Farm Run Around Tractor. Need to also pick up some new 1/4" fuel line so I can put the Gas Tank back on. 100_1819.jpg 100_1843.jpg 100_1836.jpg 100_1837.jpg 100_1850.jpg 100_1839.jpg 100_1853.jpg 100_1846.jpg Won't be long till I put it all back together. I did go a Off Green by Rustolium for the main color and a slight Texture Black for the frame, should be all dry tomorrow.

People will be wondering what JD model that is :lolol: I would order some "Special Edition" Stickers as used on the High $$$ JD L&G tractor, maybe x728SE :dunno: But NOT put any JD or John Deere logos on it.

Going back together now, fun part!

Putting the Lawn Tractor back together today, the fun part is when the parts are fresh. Does not look the same anymore and it is not done. Can't wait to take it for the first ride and get it dirty! Working on getting the Deck and a Spare Lawn Tractor like it for spare parts. Probley just make it go again too. The guy is having problems keeping it running? Guess that is a good reason to get rid of it and buy a new one. I like old stuff easy to work on still.

Solved the Engine Stuff today!

While waiting for parts to get here on Monday I worked on the engine end today. Found several reasons why the engine did not run quite right. One was the fuel lines cracked inside on one and cracks at the connecting point leaking air. Fixed all that and it still was surging and found a bolt loose on the manifold to carb connection. It has been that way for a long time. After fixing that the engine smoothed out so I changed the oil. Now it runs great and starts off the key easy. My biggest worry was the engine now I know it is OK.

Transaxle Lubercation drain found

Wondered how the fluid got in and out of the transaxle yesterday to check it. When I removed the disk brake assembly I saw a drip of oil come out of the hole from one bolt hole. So I stuck a wire in the hole it was open into the transaxle. They used a 90wt gear oil I could tell by the smell so I pumped some more into the case till it came out the hole. Some had leaked out of the case since 1993. I am surprised how little wear on the moving parts there is on the lawn tractor. Even the disk brake pad was 1/2 haft way wore out. I ordered a new one for it. They sure are small stone like pad to do the stopping with.

Just a note; Saw one on the net that a guy swapped out the back pulley and did 41 MPH no other modifications! It was crazy he had a Helmet Cam on when he did it!!! Totally insane?

I finished the Lawn Tractor today!

It was a fun project to re/do it for around the place. Took it out for a drive once I had the tires mounted, that took some effort in our summer heat today! Just need to replace the Disk Brake Pad when it gets here so they work better. Now I can build a 3' x 6' trailer sitting on 2 Lawn Tractor Front Axles. I could even set them up for tandem steering for quick turns in the pasture. The tires are rated for about 950 lbs each? 4 wheels will make it nice to hitch up and just sit there with a load not hooked up. 100_1883.jpg 100_1881.jpg 100_1897.jpg 100_1900.jpg 100_1879.jpg 100_1892.jpg Not bad for a 5 day project.

Now it will be 1/2 John Deere!

It will be a Haft Breed using this JD 40"? Mower Deck under it. Once I figure what year the deck is first. The Spindles are still good and super beefy looking being solid steel. I got it to0 fix next step is fix the belt idler pulley and get belts to fit the new set up I can try it out. 100_1902.jpg 100_1905.jpg 100_1904.jpg

Kicked butt on the Mower Deck It is Painted JD Yellow and almost ready to put under the Lawn Tractor and do some mowing for a try out. I also sharpen the 2 mower blades. They looked pretty new just a little rusty. Here is a before and after picture. Should make a good fence line mower. 100_1902.jpg 100_1920.jpg 100_1924.jpg 100_1916.jpg
