I figured this would be good to start a different thread on. The 990 that I purchased had one defect in it which was made by the original owner. His Garage was only 7 feet so he had the ROPS actually shortened to be able to park the 990 in his garage. He told me he had to sign a waiver for this with the dealer and with JD when he purchased it in order to cover them legally in case he rolled the tractor. He made me sign one as well when I purchased it from him. If any of you know the 990 the ROPS is solid steel and not a foldable ROPS as on the 3x20 and 4x20 series etc. If you look at the picture you might not be able to tell that it is that different.

I am not sure what to do at this point with it. Do I seek to figure out how much shorter it is from the original and then have a piece welded onto it or should I replace it which is an expensive proposition of over $550. I wish that the original owner would have thought to keep the peices cut off of it and then that would have helped. the parts section show it but of course it does not show an engineering drawing with all the dimensions which would help. That kind of a drawing would have helped with the BH bucket as well when giving drawings and dimensions to Bro-Tek for the ripper. So does any one have any thoughts on this?

Finally I would like to get a canopy for the tractor for those times you have to work in the rain with it and also to block the sun. JD has a canopy for it but it is well over $1000. I like the OEM canopy because it will have the lights and the proper wiring harness and of course it should fit properly. Would any of you recommend some other canopy manufacturer which you deem is a good fit as well. Of course I probably really need to solve the shortened ROPS problem before I tackle the canopy problem.

Thanks for the input. You can go to the original thread here for the picture and the link to all the other pictures. http://www.greentractortalk.com/forums/showthread.php?3220-New-to-the-forum

I had the little brother to your tractor (790)- I added the ROPS extension kit- I do not recall it being all that expensive. You could go that route- then figure or guesstimate how much you will need to add to the ROPS in order to provide adequate clearance when your are seated on the BH . Without the ROPS extension and while seated on the BH -I would smack my head against the ROPS.

Keep in mind most canopies or at least the ones I have seen are built for a certain size of steel tubing--- 2x3 seems to be the common size.

Good Luck
