BELOIT, Wis. -- A 3-year-old boy has died in Rock County after a tractor accident Thursday.
The sheriff's department said the boy, Michael, was riding in the cab of the tractor with his father and 5-year-old brother on a farm in Newark Township around 7:20 p.m. Thursday. When the tractor went over a bump, the 3-year-old grabbed the door handle, causing it to pop open and the boy to fall out. Officials said the boy's father, Marvin Byers, of rural Beloit, was unable to stop the tractor and the rear wheel ran over the boy.
Byers carried the boy to the edge of a wood line behind home where Orfordville EMS performed CPR. He was taken to Mercy Hospital, where a doctor pronounced him dead just after 8:10 p.m., according to officials.
The incident was determined to be an accident and criminal charges are not likely, according to the sheriff's department.
