A good portion of our day is spent finding and pricing parts for those who call us on the phone. Folks have different computer skill levels and we are happy to help if someone prefers to speak to a real person! We get it. A customer from Georgia called this morning to price out 5 maintenance kits for his equipment. After providing him the prices, he said, "That's about the same price as my local dealer" and was ready to call it quits. No problem. But I had to inquire a bit more so I politely pressed on. The difference on our maintenance kits versus his local source was actually about $38+ in our favor as his dealer had a matrix on some of the kits. The 'local' dealer was actually 23 miles away, or 46 miles round trip. What is your time worth? Mine is worth more than an hour in my car when I can get stuff shipped for free to my door. If it's an "I gotta have this part today to get back to work" then that's a no-brainer. But maintenance kits? I'll wait.

Locally he would be paying 4% sales tax versus no sales tax to GA from us. I explained that he would also get 5% rewards points for future purchases if he ordered online. It's all in the math - things aren't always what they seem. Take advantage of additional savings for the same parts when you can!

So right you are. I too value my time greatly. Running around for parts is not a high priority. Thanks for the story.

Yes - I did the math a long time ago. And with me the "local" cost is a lot higher if you consider my closest Deere dealer is a 164 mile round trip. So that's 9.1 gal of fuel at today's price of $2.30 brings that trip to $20.95. This is why I keep saying I am so happy with GFP's shipping terms.

164 miles round trip? Ouch.
