Never used a box blade but I'd have to say the box blade may be better.

I have both. the box blade is definitely better for redistributing rock, ripping up potholes and fluffing the rock, and final smoothing. the rear blade is extremely useful for pulling rock back from the edges and reestablishing a crown. I usually run the edges with the rear blade angled in, then work it with the bb

I have both. The box blade is my go to tool for driveway maintenance and grading dirt. Only use the rear blade for snow removal.

I think that I have to agree with the others that recommend a box blade for gravel driveways. I built a rear blade for mine and while it's very handy for a lot of stuff, I am finding that it isn't what I expected for the driveway. The scarifiers would be better to "fluff" as userjh160 mentions and the rear blade tends to lose too much out the sides. I haven't used a box blade yet but these are my observations on the rear blade.
