Well, my 8 year old laptop has been getting slower and slower, moreso over the past 3 months it seems.
I decided to try out the FixMyPC site, and, it honestly seems to be running as quick as when I first purchased it.
Haven't seen any annoying pop-ups, and just seems everything is working up to snuff now.
The initial contact I had with them was at a cost of $19.95, whereby they scan your computer for you and determine just what IS wrong with it. It turns out I had over 4,000 separate issues slowing down my computer.
Next, they offered a service to repair all the systems on my computer, via remote access to their tech. service, at a cost of $99.00.
I figured, what the heck, if they can do what they say for that price and keep me from having to spend $800.00 +- on a new PC, lets go for it.
Long story short, in about 3 hours time, they had it working like brand new again.
I'm not a salesman, just an old tired/retired Mechanical Engineer, and, for what it's worth, I'm quite pleased with the results.
Just thought I'd share this info and experience from my end as a consumer of their product, and I give them a thumbs-up. :greentractorride:

Not a bad deal at all, nice that it runs like new. Also nice to see a service like that actually work well. Mine had the same issue and my main problem was the startup took forever, After installing various programs and uninstalling, it really cause my laptop to suffer in performance.

Since I got rid of all the pay for virus protection programs and went with "Microsoft Security Essentials" plus "Ccleaner"* I don't get all that slowing down addons anymore. Ccleaner also gives one the ability to adjust the start up items just as Windows does (only it's easier).

I'm always suspicious of a "cleaner" when it finds so many issues, but I guess if a computer isn't maintained regularly they build up. I've been running trouble free since using the above programs.

* I do throw Piraform Ccleaner a $20 every six or eight months or so because their tech folks handled a problem for me a few years ago. It was fairly involved but they got it right. Ccleaner removes "stuff" that IE leaves when closing even when you have the proper boxes checked...

Maybe I just don't see the big picture...but isn't it Microsofts fault in the first place all these bad things happen? Then you rely on them to "fix" everything that shouldn't be broken in the first place?

Exactly. Would you take your John Deere tractor to a Kubota dealer to get fixed? Like say, a bad drive shaft on a 2320? But this isn't the case or point, is Microsoft's software really bad or broke because someone else decided to alter it? I figure, It's not a tire manufactures fault if someone throws nails in your driveway and you get a flat tire.
With over 40 years in the computer/IT industry I must say I am very comfortable with Microsoft Security Essentials,,,, for now.

I can say one thing for sure, the money saved on addressing my computer issues will now head towards buying the JD 54" blade and hydraulic system for it from Muttons.

I finally resolved all my desktop computer issues to my complete satisfaction. Took it outside, with a single blast from the 20 gauge shotgun, 6 rounds from the Glock 9mm and for insurance all six rounds from my dirty harry special, 44 magnum, I finally found peace after the smoke cleared & the parts fell back to earth.

Then, as I was sitting there, I got out the JD 855, loaded the remains into the 1500 cart & buried this pile of useless diodes, chips & recycled scrap metal from Ho Chi Min city. I'm a happy person again.

No- What I'm saying is that "I" resolved all my problems with "MY" personal pile of crap to my satisfaction. I will be replacing the now dismembered pile of scrap with a new pile of crap either labeld HP or Dell. And at some point in the future the new pile will meet its end in the same manner as the old pile.

Disclaimer-Personal experiences & results may vary. You may or may not experience the same level of hostility as I have towards all this high tech stuff. But I can still fix a carburetor, fix a flat, and marvel at the past inventions from guys & gals that never went past grade school or high school.

Yes Hydro. After living my entire life in NY & 35 years in the lower Hudson valley, I'm moved to south Carolina, where you can own a gun to shoot your computer with no questions asked. Say how's Andrew doing on the Tappan Zee??? What's the toll up to now, $20 bucks a pop? I was paying $12,000 a year in property taxes in that hell hole.

Yeah, I felt the disturbance in "The Force" when you crossed that southern boundry for the last time! (Thank goodness for this forum!)

12 G's in prop taxes and you weren't even in the Arlington School district? Oooooo Faaaaaah! So do you now have that porch to sit and pick "Dualing Banjos" on?

Hydro--I've been away for a couple of days from GTT. Have a lot of outdoor work going on here in the sunny south. The weather this time of year is just great. To answer your question--YES. I've got a house with a great front porch that over looks the farm across the road. Also have a nice screened in back porch where I had hummingbirds all summer long but now they have gone back to Mexico & south America for the winter.

What's really funny, we have TV commercials down here of Gov. Ugly of NY making a pitch for moving your business from the sunny south to NY for a ten year tax break. Give me a break! Why on gods green earth would a business owner relocate to NY even for a tax break! Laws, restrictions, UNIONS, EPA, Dept. of Commerce. And you know who takes it in the neck & the A>>>for those company tax breaks. The home owner like you & me. Yes my stinking taxes were almost topping out at $12 K for living in Orange county in yuppie land Warwick township. I had 5 acres & a 2,700 sq. ft. colonial. Yes sir 12 k in taxes & what really irritated me was that you go to the corner store & the stupid teen ager who your paying all this school tax for can't count out change from a dollar bill. The new crop of Minds of MUSH, pushed me over the border. Since my new home is less than a year old, my taxes for this year will be $404. total for the 4.14 acres I'm on. Next year my taxes will include the home. My taxes with the new home will be a whopping $1,500 for the 4.14 acres and a home of 2,300 sq. feet. Compare that to the NY rip off.

I miss a lot of things about the empire state. But I sure don't miss the corrupt govt. Ask yourself why there are nine million people piled into Manhattan island & only about one million pay taxes. Ask yourself why upstate & the finger lake region is a ghost town state. Had to leave the place because after a lifetime of living there, I could not stop working unless I wanted to become some slum rat & live in poverty. Have fun paying those winter fuel bills & having to look at Gov. ugly while listening to his lies. Enjoy your snow plowing. Really, I will miss plowing the 400 foot long driveway I had back there. I'm off to do some cat fishing.

Hydro, I've gone on a rant here. Its certainly not directed at you. It is directed at the corrupt govt. & the "TAKERS" that people have become. America be no more. We are now a bunch of socialists believing govt. is our only salvation.

"Directed at me?" You are echoing me! As far as escaping NY, I "missed it by that much" a while back. I agree with everything you list about NY and sadly I'll have to "brass it out" here for the duration. I think I'd trade plowing my driveway for a view of a farm across the street too!

Glad you found your that place! Now, forget about the "Albany A-H's" and enjoy bein' down sow'f!!!:good2:

(FWIW, when my Dad retired to SW Utah 40 years ago it took him 10 years to get that "Niew Yawk" rate of speed living out of his system.)

Here's just another example of what land prices here are, compared to "up "nawth"......
My son and I purchased, 12 years ago, 34.4 acres, access to a private pond, 12 acres wooded, the rest in cleared field, for $35,000.00.
Taxes approx. $600.00 per year.
Just sayin.......:thumbup1gif:

I'm pretty sure he means $600 for the entire parcel. You would be really surprised what you can pick up here in the south if you put your mind to looking. When I went on my search for houses and/or land here in south Carolina, I came across some really super deals. Unfortunately my wife wanted to be within a 1/2 hour ride to the grand children & all so that limited my search down to the high tax area-$404 taxes for 4.14 acres!
