I like the wider and thicker SS cutting edge and SS hardware and the way the blade's angle can be adjusted. Heck of a design improvement, price point marketing sucks, it paves the way for shysters in the market place to make a fast buck by enabling them to use flawed and mediocre designing and lesser quality materials in their products. I'm not going to let silence be their friend no matter who dislikes me for it.

Not an expert on steel but it would be my guess a carbon steel cutting edge would out last a stainless steel cutting edge.

A cutting edge's thickness and width I would think matters most concerning wear and tear, SS would be better for fending off corroision due to salt trucks and home owner chemicals used to melt ice, plus SS looks better than a rusty corroded cutting edge.
