Hey fellas,

So, after weeks of research I purchased and installed a Ruegg 3 point hitch for my 2018 X739. I debated for quite awhile if I should have my dealer install this due to overwhelming responses I found of people saying "it was the worse thing ever", "have the dealer do it, $300 is a steal". Even one review on youtube had a guy saying it would have took him 24hrs if he didn't sleep to install this. But no where could I find detailed info of the install, or specifics on what sucked about doing this yourself.

I decided i'd document it with real pictures, and give anyone else thinking about doing this at least a decent idea of what really is involved. I took a different approach and removed the seat, seat pan, and flipped the fuel tank up. In total, from start to finish with taking pictures it took me about 4hrs (2hrs Thursday night and 2hrs Friday night), and it was WAY easier then everyone made it out to be.

*Disclaimer- I may or may not have done something right or wrong. I'm not a Deere tech. This is a what worked best for me.

I had all the pictures uploaded on photobucket but when i posted them here, they were the size of a house. I guess i'll do one post per picture :banghead:


I started with removing the seat by the rod that holds it into the frame, making sure to unplug the wire harness. Then using an Allen key, remove the two rear bolts on the seat frame bracket.

Then remove the 4 bolts holding the seat pan to the floor pan (or whatever its called). There are 2 bolts each side. Loosen the "L" bracket found on below the gas filler side fender and rotate it out of the way.

Push the wires for the seat safety switch through the seat pan and disconnect the wire harness for the taillights. Remove the gas filler cap and lift the entire thing off by the handles.

Remove the 2 bolts that hold the gas tank bracket on.

Flip the fuel tank up towards the steering wheel and secure it with a bungy strap. Wola! There is the hydraulic cylinder under the frame rail in the top of the picture.

Remove the spring clip from the differential lock rod in the rear of the tractor. Save for later. Remove the front spring clip from the same rod under the tractor. I pushed the entire thing forward out of the way and let it hang there instead of pulling it all the way out.

Remove the clip from the brake rod and remove the rod. I marked the hole with a silver Sharpie. The clip is a little confusing, i took a picture of it off for better clarification.

On to removing the cylinder from the tractor. It should now look like this from below. One turn of each fitting with a wrench and you should be able to use your fingers to loosen then the rest of the way.

Here is where removing the seat pan starts to pay off.

On the side of the frame rail, remove these two nuts. The "U" bracket that holds the cylinder on will then pull off from the inside of the frame rail.

Disconnect the clip from the end of the cylinder rod end, remove the pin and bushings, and remove cylinder from the tractor.

Throw away the hardware you just removed, it is not needed.

Place the cylinder in a vice and remove both 90* fittings.

The best/easiest way to describe what goes where is the small fitting with small hydraulic hose go in the cylinder closes to the rod end. Tighten both.

The longer hose goes directly to the cylinder. Tighten.

Attach the 2nd 90* fitting to the end of the short hose. Do not tighten this fitting.

Align rod holes using a screw driver and install in tractor with rod end facing towards the rear. Use the shoulder bolt installed from outside of the frame rail to the inside.

Using a screw driver or something similar, lift the rod end of the cylinder up to help with tightening the fittings to the hydraulic lines.

As you can see, you have pretty good access to the fittings from the top. The one toward the rear is still a pain in the ass, but not nearly as bad as it would be if i was doing this solely from the bottom of the tractor.

Tighten both fittings, make sure to remember to tighten the 90* elbow you kept loose earlier.

Install the lift strap to the lift bracket as followed. You will need a set of retaining ring pliers not just for this, but also for installing the rockshaft later.

Run the strap between the transaxle and the lift cylinder. Attach the bracket as pictured.

Make sure the hydraulic hoses are not touching the lift strap. Use zip ties to aid in this if needed. I used 2 for piece of mind.

Reattach the brake rod and differential lock rod the opposite way you removed them.

On to the rockshaft. Screw the square bolt ALL the way to the top as possible. Install the pivot and insert the depth rod into the pivot. Using a BFH, give the pin a few wacks to center it in the depth rod.

Put the left and right reinforcement plates on the ends of the rock shaft with the notches facing up. Install the rock shaft into the rear frame rails.

Make sure the depth stop slides into the notch on the left side of the frame rails.

Put the bolts and nuts on, but do not tighten.

Install the depth stop retainer using the bracket and the self tapping screw.

Install the shoulder pin from the outside of the frame rails threw the rock shaft, cylinder rod end, and lift strap. Tighten the nut.

(I could see the end at this point and slacked on pictures, sorry)

Next, install the rock shaft bushings. Using the spring clips, attach the rockshaft in place. Tighten the bolts at this time for the reinforcement plates.

Install the 2 "L" brackets to the bottom plate that will hold the draft links. I had to attach mine from the bottom up to make sure the steering linkage didn't hit the bolts due to being an AWS tractor.

Install the rest of the 3ph at this time.

So, there is a general idea of how to install a 3PH on a X700. There are some minor steps i didn't include, but this hopefully will help someone else out down the road thinking about tackling this project. I know the fact that I could find very little on the install was very discouraging to me.

If anyone has anything to add in regards to the 3PH, please feel free.
