Now to the real question. Should I dump the fuel (fresh fuel with sta-bil) and then run it out of fuel or leave it in?
I have a boat load of Stihl equipment, I have never done anything but shut them off for winter storage.
Last I knew Stihl 2 stroke oil had stabilized in it.

Just bought a 16" MSA 220 for the wife's birthday present. She wanted an upgrade from her 12" 40v Kobalt, so we got her the MSA 220 with AP300 battery & charger. She is aware the Stihl is a more 'aggressive' saw than the Kobalt and to be handled with care. The local JD dealer didn't have it (or battery/charger) in stock but got an overnight transfer from an affiliate store.

While in Ohio the other day, stopped at a Stihl dealer bought my wife an early Christmas present .. She wanted another battery for the self propelled mower, Surprised they had 3 different models a AP100 apx $159.00 AP300 $189 or 199 and the ApP300S can't remember either $259 or 269.. Bought the S model , wife was happy yesterday mowed both lawns and still had plenty of bars on the 2nd battery..

Winning! I just sold the saw i first bought. Had her for 18yrs, retired her a few years back when i got the 462. I was still able to fetch $260 for the ms270. Now I've got room on the shelf....what to fill it with 😬🤔

Am I the only one having a problem with screws near the trigger of Stihl lawn tools? The Torx heads have internal teeth that quickly rust out when repeatedly exposed to sweat. (We sweat a lot here in Florida.) Once that happens, it's nearly impossible to remove the screw without drilling it out. I'm going to try coating the screw heads with wax to see if that helps. If not, I'm hoping to find compatible stainless screws for critical locations.

Do you really even need to ask that question?

I've considered it but the ms462 has been excellent the last few years. The 500i wasn't available at the time and then they were gouging once available. For a homeowner that only does 5-6 cords a year, with most wood being under 18" since I scavenge it, that 1500 price is hard to accept. I run 20"bars and chains. if they swap over then it might be an idea. but if they don't, a full compliment is $$$

Some would say it looks “too new.” I say those are the folks whom the jealousy hat doesn’t fit them well. 🍻

If you're running an .050 chain the MS462 and MS500i chains are interchangeable according to the list.

Now that I've figured out to NOT use the compression release on my MS261 it's settled in to being a fantastic saw that starts easy and cuts the locust and oak I harvest from my land.

I should sell off the MS271 since we don't use it much and she's not going to be using it.

I'd love to get a bigger saw but I've yet to "max out" the little 261 and that's even with just the 16" bar to keep it out of the dirt. We did just drop some larger poplars and most are going to the mill but I'll still have to cut some 24" plus rounds for my buddy's own sawmill. Given how soft it is the MS261 will slice through it easily though I'd really love for an excuse to get the MS500i.

Yes I run a .050 3/8 on that ms462, 20". I have 25" bars and chains but stick to the 20" until i need to swap over. The 20" spins quicker.

I picked up a MS261 a couple years back to be a backup/ limbing saw. It's nimble, lighter, and spins up quick. I haven't even broken it in fully. This replaced my old MS270 since it had a sticky clutch that wasn't worth tearing into.

You don't use your decompression button at all? I live for mine! Both saws start so much quicker when hot or cold thanks to the decomp button. That was a factor in unloading the ms270....30+ pulls when cold vs 3 on both my pro saws.

I must have a Monday or Friday MS261. It would never start hot for me using the compression release. Stopped using it and it starts on the first pull hot and the 2nd or 3rd cold.

I was seriously going to get rid of it this summer until I read somewhere online that some folks had issues with theirs and if they just ran the choke cold only and gave it normal "hard" pulls it would start without the comp release.

And it does!

“too new.”
Any saw that has been used looks it. And any one that has used a saw knows that. Clean them all you want, they still show.

Now if it is a "just got this" pic, then of course it will look brandy new. That is till you use it.

I clean up my good saw every time I use it and have since I bought it.

5 minutes after I started it, it was and looked like a used saw, cause it was.

Still care for it like I just brought her home. Maybe more. She's earned it.

When & if I out live the one I brought to the dance, I'll look at the newer stuff.

My apologies for posting a “just brought it home” picture. How dare me to post such a pic!

This whole conversation is ridiculous. 🙄 There was zero need for any of this. 😆 It’s a terrible crime to post pics of new stuff on a forum. We should make that a ban-able offense. 😂

So lets see it now. You didn't buy it to sit in the garage did ya?

Now if you haven't gotten to use it yet, I've got a couple trees that will give it a good break in.

Just don't set it on the ground behind the Pinto Gator.

Anyone got a lead on some aftermarket spikes for my lowly subdivision saw I’d appreciate it. Stock ones are worthless on the bigger wood

A few years back, I sat my leaf blower on the ground behind the tractor. Big mistake......don't ask me what happened. I was at the Stihl dealer the next day to buy a new one. Ouch! 🤬
