I've seen a lot of Stihl posts on this forum, but no dedicated Stihl thread (like the ones for Milwaukee and Dewalt). SO -- here's a dedicated discussion for all things Stihl!
__

Starting it off:

Stihl recently announced a bigger battery -- the AP500S.

A few years back, I sat my leaf blower on the ground behind the tractor. Big mistake......don't ask me what happened. I was at the Stihl dealer the next day to buy a new one. Ouch! 🤬
Did you ask if it was covered under warranty? :ROFLMAO:

My apologies for posting a “just brought it home” picture. How dare me to post such a pic!

This whole conversation is ridiculous. 🙄 There was zero need for any of this. 😆 It’s a terrible crime to post pics of new stuff on a forum. We should make that a ban-able offense. 😂
Wouldn't bother me none- all my stuff is suitably broken in and shows it.

I must have a Monday or Friday MS261. It would never start hot for me using the compression release. Stopped using it and it starts on the first pull hot and the 2nd or 3rd cold.

I was seriously going to get rid of it this summer until I read somewhere online that some folks had issues with theirs and if they just ran the choke cold only and gave it normal "hard" pulls it would start without the comp release.

And it does!
I had no idea anyone had that issue or I'd be back at the dealer with it. My decomp works great on both saws. If for no other reason id buy a pro saw because of it.

Yea let’s see that 500 in action.

The 311 still running like a champ.

Anyone got a lead on some aftermarket spikes for my lowly subdivision saw I’d appreciate it. Stock ones are worthless on the bigger wood
I was looking into aftermarket dogs when I got my 462. I happen to stumble across this guy on Facebook. He does lasercut steel, alum, ss. The prices aren't unreasonable.

I got annoyed trying to sharpen my chains on the bench using my vice. I had to block it up with a few blocks. I just wasn't a fan. Until I found a machinist on OPE Forum/ the chainsaw shack on FB that makes these chain holders. Mike Manley

I need to build one of those walls. Can I borrow the saw, operator and someone to move and set all the blocks? You do good work, much better than I would do.

Did you go with AL or should I stick with order SS ones for the 462?

Kind of a blind buy but cheap. They had the best ratings bla bla bla. Neighbor down the road recommended them. Like me he doesn’t abuse his saws so he said they are a big help with the weight. Getting older handling a saw and the spikes help a lot. https://www.amazon.com/Mtanlo-Felli...+spikes&qid=1668566500&rnid=2470954011&sr=8-3

Thanks KBAR. I didn't realize additional hardware was required to add a second dog. I had every intention of buying AL or SS from this guy on FB.

That’s a pro cover on that 500. The non pro ones are pretty easy to modify. I watched a YouTube video on it and did mine lickety split. Just gotta drill a couple holes in the side cover and they even come with holes ready for a countersunk nut. Just gotta drill the middle out to accept the bolts. It’s pretty easy since they line up perfect with the mounting holes on the dogs

My saw is a 462 pro so likely identical to the m500i pics. I'll have to look into it a little more Thanks for the idea.

Upgraded the 261 with a smaller bar. 16” light. Lager wood will be with the 400. Now to find time to retune the carb and let it rip.

A few of mine, two chainsaws, a MS250 and a MS261. Also a leaf blower with the long hooked tube for blowing out gutters and a pole saw. The pole saw works great but is heavy, I can only use it about 45 minutes before I have to quit. I also have a string trimmer but no pictures.
