at a local Chev. dealership, when I was trading in a 2007 silverado, looking for a crew cab for my growing children....approached by another salesman who didn't know I was already working with my regular salesman....

as I sat in the cab of the new one:

Salesman: Yeah, nice truck, it's got that big motor and the granny gear.

Me: Granny gear?

Salesman: Yeah, you know, granny gear...that tow-haul switch on the shifter.

Me: How's that work?

Salesman: Well, lets say you's pullin your big bass boat out'n the river, up the ramp, you's just push that and---shooom!! right up'n that ramp yous'll go!

Me: Oh really? So it, what? Holds it down in first gear?

Salesman: Yessir, well, nossir, not really...it's all gearing reduction in the transamission, is how it works....

Me: Oh, so you mean they changed it from my 2005? It's no longer a software package that electronically manages the shift points my monitoring engine torque load, throttle position, driveline speed and engine rpm and vacuum? Gosh, I didn't know they'd changed all that....

Salesman: Well, I'm no mechanic you see, but I don't know from all that, all I know is you push that, and shooom! You'll be takin off like a rocket, yessir!

it's awful damn bad when the customer knows more about the product than the salesman....

Yep, that's one of my pet peeves too, and it also applies to tech support. Actually it pisses me off more when tech support knows less about their product than I do. I expect the salesmen to be clueless anymore.

This is not a car dealer, but my tractor dealer.

Me: Hi Mike, any news?
Dealer: I did not call you because I wanted to get it done.
Me: My tractor is in?
Dealer: Yes, I will pick up your old one tomorrow.
Me: OK, when will the new one be done so I can get it?
Dealer: I don't know, i will call in a few days.
Me: Give me some notice so I can getteh farm truck and trailer ready.
Dealer: I can bring it to you since it been such a cluster ****.
Me: Thanks, that would help me out!

Yesterday>
Me: Mike, I am returning your call.
Dealer: OK, you own me (x amount plus 2K)
Me: No, we worked out a deal a bit ago that was much less, don't you remember?
Dealer: let me check my notes...... (long wait)..... Ok so You owe me X amount.
Me: OK, can I get you a check when its delivered?
Dealer: You have to pick it up. Its ready, you let me know when.
Me: You said you would deliver it due to the cluster ****..
Dealer: nope, cant do that.

What is going on in this world. This guy was hoping that i would forget the deal we made last month when the tractor was late. Then wont deliver after he said he would. This was a dealer that I would do business with on a handshake. no longer. I doubt he will get my business. If I wanted to be treated like garbage, i could have went to any other brand tractor dealer in the area....

Brian:

Gripe to the dealership's owner, and if that doesn't get you anywhere, gripe to Deere corporate. Of course you could drop a hint that you'll share your bad experience on-line at the various tractor forums.

I swear it amazes me that some people operate a thriving(?) business in spite of themselves.

Well, just wait a while...stories like this usually end with a story of "Deere just dropped my local dealer as a dealer".
IMO Very few truly "Good" Dealerships get forcefully closed down because of Deere.
