Hey Ron....you wanting to install a temp gauge on your x540? :lol::lol::lol:

I gather its water cooled,and if it is I would bet it would be fairly easy.I plan on putting one on my 2520 shortly.

I want one on the 2520 as well and that process has been nicely documented on this site. The 540 is also liquid cooled so it would be nice to add guage to it as well. A spot to put it will be the challenge. The 540 is a pet project in that I bought it used and in a little rough shape. I am in the process of restoring and enhancing it. Things like a temp guage, rear tail lights, tach, etc are all in the plan.

Under the flywheel on the X540 is the existing water temperature switch (AM108952). You could remove this switch and replace it with a water temperature sending unit. I would use an electric rather than a mechanical temperature gauge. The biggest problem will be to adapt the existing port to the new gauge threads. Kawasaki probably uses the JIS (Japanease Industrial Standard) which is similar to the British metric thread standard. I spent many hours researching this problem and may be able to help you.

The 2520 will be easy to add the temperature gauge. I did my 2210 which is similar to the 2520.

Thanks for the input. I found the housing and have the adapters but it looks like there is no place to put the gauge. :cry: I checked it over really well and everything is tight.

So, I guess the next thing is to put one on my 2520. That should be easy to do.

Well, I installed the guage in the 2520 but I am convinced that is a no go on the x540 due to lack of space. I can't believe how tight it is under there. I did get the tail lights wired up though.

Havent seen the 540 layout but I did install one on my 345. It wasnt as good as it could be because I had to install it in the house on the outlet of the radiator. So I was reading the cool side but it worked great for reference and would climb as the tractor got warm. I had this tied to a dash mounted "computer" that showed RPM, temp, time, tractor speed, etc.

How about a new thread on this. I'm intrigued by the sounds of it.

How about using a gauge cup to mount the gauge in, then you can mount the gauge anywhere it looks cool to you.
