The stock is 160. For people in the North the 1 Series doesn't like to get up to operating temperature. Diesel motors like some temp to run better. Just how they are. I've blocked up my radiator and mine still won't heat up. Thinking about adding the 180 Thermostate for myself.

Lets the engine stay warmer in cold weather. Useful in colder climates..Like ours. I have not noticed the need for one.
EDIT: I typed too slow..

Thanks ,Man you guys are quick. I'm here in Pa. as well and its been colder than usual this year. Gets this way about every 10 years or so. Guess it doesn't hurt it to run a little hotter in summer??
