The other day I used the turn buckles to tighten my 3 point hitch. It was rattling around, side to side, and was buggin me. So now it is nice and tight, no more rattles. If the day comes that I attach a mower, etc. to it do you still keep it tight or do you loosen it and allow some play in it?

I wouldn't run it tight. I tighten mine up to the point where I have about 1/2" sway. Not enough to be annoying but enough to prevent things from binding up.

If you are raising and lowering the 3PH it is recommended to adjust for just a wee bit of side-to-side movement to prevent binding.

I use a rubber bungee to hold the arm tight when running around empty. when I'm using the 3 pt hitch, leave a 1/2 sway. Funny how they get looser and tighten as they raise, something to do with the geometry.

I leave it a little loose but when I put the stump grinder on you want it has tight has can be. I tried the stump grinder with it a hair loose and it bounced me and the tractor from side to side.
