Using a Frontier FM1012 (TBW144) with 4066R

I have a 4066R that is to be delivered at the end of the month & I have an FM1012 (the Woods TBW144) coming in November. I am second-guessing my decision to get this 4066 as I bounced between it & a 5075, but I want the physically smaller tractor. I will not be using the finishing mower a brush cutter, so I will not be mowing anything other than grass. I use an R15 behind a 4440 to do the heavier cutting.

I cannot find any post on anyone using that mower with a 4066. Does anyone have experience with that combination? If so, is it a good match?

I don't have experience with a 4066R with a 12 ft flex wing finish mower, but I would think that it would be a great tractor for this mower. The 4066R has plenty of horsepower and having an eHydro with cruise control is perfect (in my opinion) for this type of mowing.

I use a 10 ft Rhino TS10 flex wing with my 4052R, and it is a wonderful mowing combination. Plenty of power and very maneuverable.

I bought a new 4066 in April and was using a 6’ brush hog to cut 13 acres. I have a 3038 I was using and I was able to cut 2.5 off my mowing time just by going to the 4066. I have since bought a TBW144 grooming mower and reduced my time even more. It now takes me 3.0 hrs to mow 13 acres, and I wish I had bought a cab tractor sooner. I’m really liking this 4066 when the temps are in the 90’s. The 4066 handles the mower with no problems.

Thank you so much for you feed back. If you have any pictures of it all hooked up, please share.

Are you running the wheel extensions? Anything that you had to modify or wish that you'd done different (other than buying sooner)?

Should be fine, maybe a little small!! I run a Frontier FM2017 behind my 2014 4720 cab tractor with no issues. I cut 15-16 acres in about 3 hrs. Tried it with the 72D MMM on the 4720 until I could find a good used batwing finish mower. Wish I knew about the Rhino TS10/12/15's, if they were even out back in 2015. I think the TS's would have served my purposes a little better.

No modifications done except I did have to run a hydraulic hose to the rear for the mower. I just ran a hose from one of the connections on the FEL. If I need a to use a loader I use the 3038. This was a cheap way of getting hydraulics back there, only cost about 80.00 to do this.

Why do you feel the TS would be better?

For Me, I don't need things to look like a lawn. While the FM 2017 does a fantastic job on grass up to 8-9 inches, but when that high it leaves a lot of med-large clumps even if grass is dry. I even have Gator blades on it. Now I know I should always get it cut when it's no more than 6 inches, but even if I do it leaves clumps.

The TS is designed to cut taller grass, and still have a great quality of cut. For me, it would allow for less time spent cutting, or more importantly, allow more time between cuts, thus matching up with my free time better.

Because it has rained so much the last 3 yrs the grass grows quicker than I can get it cut, and the clumps don't dissipate quick enough before it needs to be cut again, which makes even more clumps. It takes a lot of HP to cut taller grass at 17' width, but the 4720 handles it, but she knows it there. When dry it's great.

I do like my FM2017, It is just an, "if I could do it over" thing. The TS is more forgiving so to say, if the grass got away on you, and still have a good looking quality cut. Depends on what you want, and time available to cut it.

If you want lawn/golf course look go batwing finish mower. If Country lawn (4-6") is your thing go for the TS.

That makes sense. Thanks for taking the time to explain.
