To all our friends at DeereTalk, we would like to inform you of a huge change to our website in the very near future. We are changing the name to GreenTractorTalk (GTT). Along with the name change it is decided to take the opportunity to have the site professionally re-designed with an entire new look. Please be assured this is a positive step forward for us and the future of the forum. This change will facilitate moving in positive and forward direction.

Our current url will forward to the new forum to help people find us once we move, but we could also use your help by letting people know that we have moved.

As we move forward with this change it is our intent to make this change as smooth and seamless as possible. However, we ask that you bear with us for the unseen glitches that we hope will be far and few between. We also request you help us in finding and bring to light these issues so that we may attend to them promptly. We also understand there will be lots of content clean up. It is our intent to fix the important stuff immediately.

Most important of all, we thank you all for making our forum the best John Deere forum on the internet. Keep up the good work!

:hi: GTT!
Keeping the same IP?
Why the name change? I can understand improvements, changes, etc, but the name change? Is "Deere Talk" an infringement or something?

Just curious. I'm here to stay, can't get rid of me that easy

Unfortunatly no. To do this in a way that made sense, i am also making a server change.

We have not been forced to change the name. But, if we ever wanted to have Deere advertise with us, we would have to change the name.
Are all the threads, user profiles, albums, etc going to move over as well?

Absolutely. There may be some glitches...but everything will transfer over.

I guess the links I posted over on TBN will no longer be of any use, I used the DeereTalk.com IP. Oh well.

No but...you can link directly to the GTT site at least until they catch on:laugh:
Brian,
If you are changing Hosts, are you going to be able to do this without the site being down for a day or so and while DNS records propagate? Maybe I should just shut up?

I'll just use the new IP. I'm what ya call a Thinker!:spy:
Maybe I should just shut up?
Is that possible?

Sorry, I could not resist:flag_of_truce:

They are all good questions, the forum(s) will be down for a while. When we have a firm time frame we will send out another mass-email and update this thread so everybody stays informed of the status.

Well I hope the new version doesn't have pop up boxes telling of problems like it can't open the site. I think for those of us whose system is corrupted and for whatever reason can't upgrade to the latest IE9 have some issues with either the imbedded ads or whatever parasites are. Appaently 49 of the top 50 sites have parasites. I had watched Mytractorforum.com for a number of years but when I finally felt like joining it hadn't worked for me for a while hence I found this site via search engine. Maybe this tbn I read in other posts here is another forum.

Might I guess someone is buying the domain deeretalk.com perhaps John Deere. Are you just going to let it go dormant and get snatched up if someone isn't buying it. Of course you don't have to answer these questions.

In a way it is a shame usenet or newsgroups don't come with an internet access anymore. Sure these fourms are searchable and you can post pictures but .........

Fran, are you having specific problems with our site? PM me if you are please or post in the Help Forum.

We will still own the DeereTalk name, and it will be redirected to the new site. We own several other names as well.

TBN is indeed another forum.

Nothing to hide...ask anything you want:thumbup1gif:

we are working on a script that will forward any DT address to the same one at GTT

The site (DT) will shut down around 6 pm eastern on Friday. We will need to move the database from here to GTT Friday night. Tech Guy is in London, so by the time the database gets copied over, he will be asleep. Saturday morning, he will get everything in order and hopefully open the site. There will be no DNS change since we have a new server for the new site. We have also ran some tests on doing this so we should not be too surprised. So you guys feel better, you can go visit the new place. www.greentractortalk.com You will notice that the skins for the site, or the looks are not complete. We will be working to button some things up over the next few days and maybe a bit after we move. You will see that things transferred over fine and we have been testing. Please do not start posting as we will move the database Friday and it will remove everything that is posted over there.

The new version is not much different than here. In fact, right now we have the choice of the same skin we have here. We are only trying to make some visual improvements. No change in advertising or how we operate.

This move is only to allow the Deere lawyers to give clearance to the Deere marketing people to work with us. We hope that we can give our members more technical information and maybe access to data direct from the company. As our relationship with them grows, so will the possibilities.

Brian,
Thanks, Sounds like most of the prelim is done. I've been in you shoes many times, good luck and I hope you don't need it.
Thanks for all the hard work.

Keith
Good luck with the move. Looks and sounds like you've already done your homework so it should go smooth.
