Not sure what to get....Looking at a 3005, 3032, or a 3038.. Dealer has a 3005 in stock, but is tellin me
a 32 or 38 will be 3-4 weeks.:banghead:. I like the 3005, but bigger is better, and the 3038 is more than I need.

Havnt made up my mind yet. I'll stew it over the weekend...

I never heard a complaint saying they had too much horsepower, but I have heard it the other way around....

My vote is on the 3038e.

Mowin,
First off what all will you be using it for...I assume some if not all it's time will be spent strapped to a mower...(keen powers of observation there) Is there something you like about the 3 series or are you open to larger or smaller machines. Will it be stored in a garage and will there be enough storage space etc...

3005's a tank

It depends on what your doing. I got my 3005 delivered in December and since then I have 82 hrs on it. I love this tractor. I debated long and hard between the 3005 and 4005. I like it because I can get in places like the barn yet can work hard out in the pasture. The only shortcoming I've found is the lift capacity. I could stand to lift a few hundred pounds more but I'd probably just get myself into trouble. So far it is reliable and a very simple machine. I like the manual transmission but some people might not and would want a machine with the e hydro system. I found that getting into a new machine is nice but the real money is in the attachments. For the money a 3005 is nice because after you get it and a few attachments to do your work (play) you can still afford to own it. 3038 with a few toys is gonna start getting spendy.
Maybe I'm cheap and not made of money but it became a very real consideration in tractors was the cost of the basic machine PLUS the toys you want/need and that is where the money added up fast. What do you really need and hopw much can you afford besides the basic tractor? Something to consider.

Your keen powers of observation are somewhat correct....I do landscaping and property maint. some stone work. Of course i will be using it around the house, firewood, pushing snowbanks back if we get alot of the white stuff, and general cleanups at home and at clients propertys. These three tractors fit the budget. Theres only $1400 diff between the 3005 and the 3038, but the 3038 is at the top of my budget if not a little over. Some of the fields that I sub the brushhoggin out to are small, but there are 4 that are 10-12 acres. I have access to a skid steer and a 12k mini for the heavy stuff. My nephew has em and i can use em whenever i need to as long as there not on a job. I can have the 3005 tomorrow, or listen to the clock tick for 3-4 weeks.....and that can be awfull loud...lol

I like the 3005 alot but the extra hp would be nice. Since I will be doing alot of loader work, mulch, topsoil, stone, i'm leanin toward the hydro over the gear shift....

I am really surprised of the wait for the 3038. Around here, every dealer has 4-10 of'em. One thing to consider as well....the 3032-3038 has quite a bit more lift capacity out of the gate, but the 3005 can be shimmed to up its capacity. ( I dont think it will equal the 3032-8's tho) The 3005 can have a mid-pto installed for belly mower, snow blower, etc. It also has a quick detach loader. But...the hydro is the only way to go for loader work in my opinion. You cant really have it all until you get into the xx20's. Thats why I bought the 2520 as the 3x20 was overkill for me at this time. My 2520 is rated for 200 lbs more lift than the 3005 stock

3005 manual transmission

I was on the tractor last night:lol: and got thinking. I'm very used to the clutch and using the transmission while I do front end loader work. I drive a truck with a manual transmission so it's second nature. I had my son try the tractor for a bit. He's in his 20's and never operated a tractor. He found it a little difficult to handle the clutch and bucket and box scraper and keep it all sorted out. In fact he stalled the tractor a couple times. You may be on the right track with the hydrostatic trans for loader work if your not real adept at using the manual trans. I hadn't considered it til I watched my son struggle a bit. I'm sure with a few hours he'd get it down and be fine.
I've used the 790 we have at work alot and got used to it's hydro but prefered the mannual. That may be personal taste though. For only a $1400 difference..... It's up to you. I look at $1400 bucks as being a 3005 right now with a brush hog on back for free (about the cost of the mower). I'm a bit thrifty and tend to want to get all I can for my dollars so I went 3005 and a few attachments. It seemed to be the most I could get for the dollars my wife allowed me to spend:nunu:
Either way you go I'm sure you'll like it. Time on a tractor is therapeutic.
