Which SCV for Grapple Diverter

I'm curious which loader function guys are using with a diverter for a grapple and the thought process behind that choice.

For example, if it's set on the lift/lower function do you have the open on the lift side or the lower side? Same question with the curl. Seems no matter how I set it up I'm having to move the joystick to the opposite side to get the function I need. If I release or engage the switch too soon I get bucket movement that isn't helpful. I've had this setup for about three years but don't use it that often so maybe I'm just not getting the feel for it yet.

I mainly use it for brush and other light stuff.

You will want to use the up/down lines for your diverter. In my experience using the grapple, I often times open/close the grapple while using the curl function.

I'd say 99% of all "diverter" installations on loaders are done on the dump/curl circuit, that is the "norm".

Usually the "dump" or right joystick operation opens the grapple, and the curl/left closes it.

are you using a diverter or a separate third function value. I had a Artillian setup on my 2016 1025R that the grapple ran off the dump/curl function. You could either do the dump/curl or open/close functions at the touch of the switch, but not both at once. on my 2038R I went with the WRLong third function and have both actions active at once. If you can go with the third function I would recommend it.

I have a diverter set up like Ken recommended above. I also have a third scv but don't use it for the grapple. I think having to switch controllers would be worse. I think I just don't have the muscle memory due to infrequent use. It does the job just not fluently.

I have my third function control is just a button on my main SVC control stick. I also have the rear svc's and they are controlled by the levers on the right side top of fender. if w want the grapple open I just touch the top of the switch and the bottom of the switch closes it.

If I had third function, that would be my first choice for a grapple.
On my JD 2030, the loader operates from a mid valve. The grapple from a rear SCV. The SCV has detent for both open and close. I can put the valve to detent to open when dumping, t full open the lever goes back to center. I can also operate the loader if needed (change grapple angle curl/dump, or raise the boom) .
When I close on brush, stump, logs, etc. I use the detent and it closes to full clamping pressure then the lever goes to center.

AKA Dave,

A diverter and 3rd SCV are not the same thing. Buy the JD 3rd SCV and you'll be happy forever. It provides a seperate function control for the cylinders that open and close the grapple, or side to side for plows, etc. You receive a new joystick top and the 3rd SCV is controlled by your thumb.
