Hello to all,
This is George from south Louisiana. Iam a new member and chose this site because of the good explanations a practical advice. I have recently come across a JD X350 with a Kawasaki 18 hp engine. it starts right up and runs very good. It drives forward and reverse at full speed. It also runs very smooth at full speed with the pro engaged but when I attempt to cut grass with it is shudders and pops like its about to cough and die. If I disengage the pro it recovers and runs fine again.these are the things I checked from reading on this site so far.
disconnected each plug wire to check the coils engine stayed running on both plugs individualy.
Carburator is clean not a crumb nowhere.
nothing interfering with the blades, spindles or idler pullies.
will replace fuel filter this week today is Sunday.
any and all advice will be greatly accepted and appreciated

Thanks Skullhull

Welcome to GTT!
Welcome from VA. I would start with the fuel filter as you stated. While you have the filter off, blow out the fuel line towards the tank.
I Have also read on here that if the battery is not 100% that could be a potential issue with the electronic pto. Can someone explain this in detail.Sorry all I have is questions for now I can't let this beat me.

Thanks

Will be back on the this issue this weekend. New fuel filter today and will check battery voltage also. Just wanted to bump this up and hopefully get some new eyes to see it
Thanks George

just a thought here...........I have noticed that if I pull up on the PTO switch ( X590) to restart the deck blades, sometimes at Idle speed I get nothing but when I do it at Full Throttle it starts right up. Is it possible that you are experiencing a similar issue? Can you increase your engine speed and see if that resolves the issue? It might be a RMP/voltage relationship!

Still poping and stalling bad when under a load. New fuel filter and fuel lines are clean. Battery voltage is 12.1 when engine is off and 13.5 while running. Gas tank and fuel lines are clear and clean. There is no filter inside of tank so thats not it either. Got an OEM fuel pump coming. Could this have anything to do with the electronic PTO. Iam really hoping its the fuel pump.

12.1 is a bit low for a fully charged battery. What does it drop to when cranking or when the PTO switch is engaged?

I will try to check this tomorrow. been really busy with work. new fuel pump should arrive tomorrow also. Just wondering how would low voltage cause my problem of popping or backfiring and stalling out ? Hope the fuel pump arrives early tomorrow only day I will be off till next Tuesday. A nd moving my son to LSU over the weekend. Geaux TIGERS!!

installed new fuel pump. same problem. Plulled out the the ngk plugs and were gonna replace them with more ngk but the parts store said that they had 2 in stock but could not find them. Go figure.Replaced with a cross referenced champions plugs. She is cutting very thick and tall grass like a champ. 26 bucks for a new fuel filter and 7 bucks for 2 spark plugs and its back in action. I am somewhat embarrassed that I didn't change them earlier but they were new ngk plugs maybe two months old at best. After about 6 hours of reading hundred of different post that several people said it was a spark issue. Either a coil or plugs. Most people swore it was a fuel issue carburetor or fuel supply.
Thanks for the help
George
