I mowed the other day, parked the mower, and now it will start but won't move. I have checked the free-wheel rod in the back of the mower, as well as the parking brake.

A few things I noticed:

  • The forward and reverse pedals feel really loose, like I could push them to the floor with 1 finger.
  • I can flip the parking brake switch up and down without having to depress the brake

I don't have a lot of mechanical knowledge, but I do all the basic maintenance and have replaced the starter before.

I just removed the deck and I can see the rod that connects the pedals to the transmission. I don't see anything broken looking, but I also don't know what I'm looking for.

For reference I am using the diagram for the linkage from the John Deere Parts catalog (Search "x320" > alphabetical index > L > "LINKAGE, FORWARD/REVERSE PEDALS").

Any help would be awesome and much appreciated!

Thanks

Check the drive belt that go's between the engine (front) and transmission (back) to see if its broken or slipping.
