X3s vs x5s

I’ve been looking at used mowers to take over main mowing duties from my 1025r. The 1025 is a little too heavy at times. I do have a few good hills so I want the k58 minimum. I let a x320 slip away this past weekend, I should’ve bought it. I’m looking for a used x320, x360, a new or used x380 or x390 or any of the used 2 wheel steer x5s. I’m not interested in spending new x5 money, nor do I need power steering or lift. I’ve found an x520 for around 4k with low hours. The x320 had 101 hours, clean and they were asking $2,900. 4K is about the top unless I buy a new x380. What would you do?

We have an X380 and an X570. Both have the 54” accel deep mower decks. They are both exceptional mowers. The 54” decks cut really well. I’ve read a lot of complaints about the 54” deck scalping versus a 48” deck not. A 48” deck is only 3” narrower on each side. We’ve never had a scalping issue and our yard is not the smoothest. The X380 has the K58 transmission and the X570 has the K72. We have both flat and hills on our 2.5 acres of yard. I bought the X570 because I was pulling a Cyclone Rake XL in the fall for leaf pickup and wanted to make sure it had the strength to pull it.

Finding a low hour, well cared for of either will serve you well.

Thanks, I forgot to mention I want the 48” deck. I have the 54” for the 1025r and it scalps in spots. I specifically got that vs 60 hoping it wouldn’t do it. I have a few ditches that are a little suspect. My previous mower had a 50” deck, That’s about as big as I would want. I’m keeping the 54d for the back yard. The 1025 is too big for the front yard. Unless of course I find the right deal with something that has a 54”.

I should have mentioned that our 54” decks scalped at first. Then I spent some time making sure the scalping wheels were set to the proper setting for our cut height. They haven’t scalped since. Changing the cut height means you have to adjust the scalping wheels.

I usually just mow 1/2” lower one week, and then scalping issues really go away.
