According to the Operator's Manual, the mower deck wheels on my X584 need to be adjusted so there is between 1/4" and 1/2" space between the bottom of the wheel and the ground. After making sure the deck is leveled per the manual, and using my trusty 1/4" and 1/2" drill bits, I get the wheel too low for the 1/4" bit to slide under, and raising it to the next notch is too high for the 1/2" bit.

So my question is, "Where should I leave the adjustment, too low (lower than 1/4" space) or too high (higher than 1/2" space) since the adjustment notches are spaced further apart than 1/4"?" Which setting is best?

Go with the higher of the two adjustments. The wheels are just for anti-scalp. You dont want the running on the ground all the time.

-- lower wheel til it touches
-- raise wheel til the next notch
