X720 not starting after changing starter solenoid

I replaced the starter solenoid on my John Deere x720 because it was just clicking and not turning over. Now that I have replaced it, there is no clicking nor attempting to turn over at all. The power comes on when the ignition is on and the fuel pump primes, but when I attempt to start it, nothing happens.

Check your battery connections (both ends, both posts), then check battery voltage during cranking or have battery load tested. JD strongbox batteries are famous for sudden death.

The battery is good. Checked ot and checked ignition switch. I pulled the spark plug and tested it. No spark. I’m not an engine mechanic and I’m definitely not electrician but if anyone has any ideas where to go from here, I’ll just work by process of elimination.

Check the voltage while the key is in the 'start' position.

A bad /weak battery can have a surface charge that checks 'ok' when not loaded, but drops low as soon as a load is applied.

You won’t have spark till the engine is turning.

I pulled the plug and set it on the engine, then jumpered the starter, there was no spark there. Do you have any suggestions of things I can try to help eliminate possibilities or trouble shoot so I can fix it? Any suggestion is welcome.

The spark plug was still electricallly connected just not screwed in...

Did you try a jumper battery yet and/or confirm battery voltage when the key is turned to the crank/start position (and of course all the safeties are satisfied)
Engine needs to be running to supply power to the plug... and not just by jumping the starter, running. When you jumped the starter, did it turn over?

You say you're not an electrician, but now is the time to learn how to be one! Do you have a meter and know how to use it? If not, get one. Box stores have them from $20 to $50 and these will work fine. If you already have one and not quite sure how to use it, post a pic of meter or at least make & model. We can teach you!

The first thing you're going to need to check is the new solenoid, is it getting power in "Start"? If no, locate fuses and check that they aren't blown. Please report back, Bob
