I've been using a x730 with a hc54 deck. The height adjustment knod work without the deck attached. When I put the deck on the height adjustment knod has no effect and the deck will drop to the ground and only lift s about three inches. What am I doing wrong?

How do you know it is doing something good when there is no deck on?
My guess is the knob is stripped and not doing anything ever. You just think it is when the deck isn't on, because the arms don't have enough weight to go down by themselves.

I left the draft arms on the lift. I could see them moving. I also had the level adjust tool on the adjusting bolt. I could see the arms, and the wrench moving. They seemed to raise/ lower in conjunction with the height adjustment knob, but as soon as I attach the deck I get 3 inches of lift and the deck goes all the way to the ground? I must be missing something simple.
The tire doesn't change how much the hydraics lift
If you lift the front of the mower 2 inches, (by putting air in the tire) it raises the mower up also.
