Newer to me JD X730. Parking brake lever was a little rough when I bought it, now it won’t engage at all. Can’t find any info in the manual how to adjust. I think I might have to adjust the jam nut & spacer back on the rear axle to get the brake pedal to travel more forward so it engages the parking brake pawl. But there doesn’t appear to be any way to get a wrench in there without removing half the axle & cutting into the frame.

The jam nut and spacer attaches to the top hole in the cam (item 13) in the diagram. I think I need to adjust this for more brake pedal travel (?)

Anyone else have this problem?

The differential lock goes down when the brake pedal is pressed down. Check the nothing is obstructing it could be the reason the pedal isn't engaging.

Are there a lot of hours on the machine?

I had issues with mine on my X585 a few years back. I am trying to remember if it was a problem setting the parking brake or releasing it.

My issue wasn't with the parking brake or adjustment at all it was the locking lever. Looking at your diagram the issue was where item 4B passed through the plastic housing that makes up the operator station and the handle attached to it. From use over the years 4B wore into the back side of the operator station. My options were to replace that entire housing as the wear wasn't really on item 4B. I improvised.

Beer can to the rescue. I superglued a bit of aluminum to the inside of the operator station. That was back in 2016 and it still is going strong. It looks like I did replace that part (4B) but it was mainly because the screw was stripping out. Oh there were some rails molded into it that had worn off over the years but I don't think that was causing my issue. It was mainly wear on the inside of the operator station. However a symptom was the lever (part 6) was really floppy and I had a hard time setting or releasing the parking brake.

It is a fairly long thread and I documented the fix to my parking brake at the very end. I was working on a bunch of stuff.

900+ hours and counting (I bought it from a locally well-known “used JD dealer” in the high 800s IIRC). I’ll check out your thread, thanks!
