I'm getting ready to install the JD 3 point hitch kit on my x738. The directions seem easy enough to follow, but climbing underneath to remove the lift cylinder and flip it around, there appears to be little to no room for wrenches to loosen the hydraulic fittings. Any special tools needed, or am I just missing something? Thank you in advance for any recommendations or helpful hints.

Get Yourself a Good set of Snap Ring Pliers Here is what I finally bought https://www.homedepot.com/p/Channellock-8-in-Retaining-Ring-Pliers-927/100348008?MERCH=REC-_-SearchPLPHorizontal1_rr-_-NA-_-100348008-_-N Use to Have cheap set I bought at a Deere Dealer with 3 adjustable Heads and they just fell apart You have two spring rings to deal with. I don'y Know if You have to move the Hydraulic cylinder on not On the X738. I Know You do on the 2010 and Later X700 series Ultimate But Not sure On the Signature Because Moving the cylinder and the spring clip are about the Only time consuming parts or the Install:bigthumb:

I did my X739 from below, use the skinniest end wrench you have on the hydraulic fittings. It takes a while going about an 1/8 of a turn and then flipping the wrench over and going another 1/8 but its doable without removing the seat pan and approaching it from above. Good luck!

Thank you, I bought a similar pair of Craftsman snap ring pliers so hopefully I'm all set with those. I'm not looking forward to doing this job. But then again, I'd rather do it myself than have the dealer do it.

maybe some crowsfoot wrenches?

If I remember correctly the crowsfoot wrenches were a big help for switching the cylinder hoses around when I installed my Ruegg 3pt on my 748.
I put the tractor on some blocks to raise it & did all the work from underneath. Not fun but I got it done.

My X585 came from the dealer with the 3pt arms so they did the install. So I can't speak to the specifics but if it is easier to access from the top, it really isn't hard to pull the fenders off. I have done it a few times and maybe takes 10 minutes.

A spa day for my X585 when it was retired from mowing.

This has crossed my mind. I've done it in the past on a 214, but haven't done anything to the x738 so far, other than fluids and filters. Thanks for the input.

I have removed the fenders on both my 355D & 748 at times.
I don't remember why I did it from the bottom when I reversed the cylinder. It would seem it should have been easier from the top but I can't remember.
Sometimes I just do things the hard way. :banghead:

Mission accomplished. Thanks to everyone for the help and tips.

The 3 point hitch is installed and working great. Thank you to all who replied. The snap ring pliers were in fact "invaluable". The enitre job probably took 14 or 15 hours over a two day period. I took my time, read the instructions (a lot) and proceeded slowly. It was all done from beneath the tractor. I lifted it off the floor about 4 or 5 inches and used four jack stands for support. I did not remove the seat pan, however I did consider it a couple of times. I wouldn't wish this job on anyone, but it is possible. Thank you again......
