Guess a thermal problem? Blades turn until stopping to empty bagger but won't engage again. Saw a video that suggests a clutch gap adjustment fixes the problem. Video showed a Cadet but sounded like it's a fairly common setup. True? Mine's a Toro MX5875, not a JD, but posted here 'cause it's more a mower issue than being buried in Non-Deere Tractors. Probably send to the dealer if they don't have a huge time-to-fix-delay since it's less than a yr old, but like some ideas of cause just in case we have to deal with it. Too bad there's not a RZT (Red Ztrak Talk) to consult.

Just won't engage and not hearing any squealing right?

How long of a wait do you have until you can get them to engage again?

Doubt it's thermal now. Hubby ran mower for 1/2 hr, turned off blades and 5-1/2 hr later still couldn't get blades to engage again. :nunu: Will try again in the AM. Don't see hope for avoiding the $70 transport fee at this point.

Could be a bad PTO switch, a bad contact at the PTO field-coil wire connector, or Open Circuit in the field-coil.

Check the connector to make sure it's plugged in completely.

Perform a Continuity Check(with a OHM meter.) of the coil while disconnected. (2.8 - 3.2 ohms)

Thought about the PTO switch and contacts, but symptoms are that it consistantly works first time for the day but then fails. :dunno:

Subsequent testing today had blades work for initial, brief off/on; run for 2 min, then off/on = struggled, but ran; run for 5 min, then off/on = fail.

Dealer just picked it up. Driver said engine didn't sound quite right to him. :dunno:

This is clearly an act performed by the "ZTrak Gods" who wish you'd buy a new one post haste. :dunno::dunno:

Don't own one but as always I'm curious.
Hopefully the fix is cheap.

Our Z950R did this last summer. We were thinking it was the PTO Switch but it ended up being the PTO Clutch. It was replaced under warranty. I have also read about the gap issue that you mentioned.

Z returned today. Dealer replaced clutch pigtail harness. Hopefully end of problem.
That sounds like a good deal, to bad you had to pay the dang transport cost. :good2::banghead:

So far, they're not asking for transport $, so it's all been gratis. They forgot to schedule the pickup, so an employee that lives nearby grabbed it on his way home that day. They didn't schedule a delivery - just added ours to an existing delivery/pickup "in case" we were home.

Have nagging feeling that there's more to the problem, but hoping it's resolved. Hubby tried it briefly last night & seemed ok, but further testing will be rain delayed.
