Anyone have any better ideas on a hitch than this? I am going to be making one and there has to be some better ideas out there.

The one you buy from JD is a piece of angle iron.

Both are over priced.

Yeah, that would be nice, but what I am wondering is if there might be a better design all together? The part I like about the JD angle iron model is that its rounded and would not hurt as much if you walked into it. Tha part I like about the model I posted is that the hitch is removable and it would be nice to be able to put different attachments on it (even though I can only see a trailer hitch ball, a small hitch for the thatcher, and maybe a clevis for trailering).

I am just looking for some other idea that might work. Some other type of connection to the ZT that would be cleaner and not stick out.

Here is what I did for the 275 I'm restoring. I cut the back factory "drawbar" area out and welded on a 2" receiver tube I bought at Atwoods supply. Cost was 15.00.

One more pic ,different angle...

I could have inset it towards the tractor more as I had the room behind the upright plate steel...and now that I think about it,probably should have,as its probably going to be a shin buster. But....I wanted room for the red clevis pin ahead of the horizontal bottom piece and didnt want to cut anymore off as it would lessen the strength.

I'd say the suggestions you've been given are all valid. If you want to avoid a shin buster, then make a removable tubular bumper that covers the rear end, and remove it from the receiver when you need to tow something. Put it back in when done towing.
Send me a 12"x12"x12" block of steel and a CAD drawing and I'll cut you one on my new mill :)

I have no better idea that the one in the eBay link.
