I'm looking to change the motor oil for the first time later this year on my 1023E and I haven't seen info regarding the use of Deere's highly regarded 0W-40 synthetic in the 1-series. 0w-40 isn't listed as an acceptable weight per the 1025/1023 owner's manual, but I prefer synthetic oil and the Deere Plus 50 0w-40 appears to be an exceptional oil.
I read some of Deere's info on the 0w-40 and it states that its recommended for any Deere engine; however the 1-series uses a Yanmar.
i live in the cold northeast and like the viscosity of this oil .
Is anyone using Deere's 0w-40 synthetic specifically in a 1-series? And has Deere okayed it as an option for the 1-series? John

I have been looking at different oil options myself. I have a 1025R and I would like to run a synthetic oil in it. I looked at the Deere 0w-40 and at a price of $10 a quart I have been looking at some other oils. Deere is not manufacturing their own oil anyway. All of Deere's oil is just labeled for them by a oil manufacture ( Mobile 1, Valvoline, etc.) I am currently thinking of going with the Rotella T6 5W-40 synthetic. I know from experience with the trucking industry that Rotella T is a good oil and I can get a gallon of it for the price of 2 quarts at the Deere dealer. Haven't decided for sure yet I still have some time before my first oil change.

According to the manual 0W-40 will cover you from -40f to 122f. I think that pretty much covers it!

Use oil viscosity based on the expected air temperature range during the period between oil changes.
John DeerePlus-50™ II oil is preferred.
John Deere Plus-50™ is also recommended
.

Other oils may be used if they meet one or more of the following:

John Deere Torq-Gard™
API Service Category CJ-4
API Service Category CI-4 PLUS
API Service Category CI-4
API Service Category CH-4
API Service Category CG-4
API Service Category CF-4
ACEA Oil Sequence E9
ACEA Oil Sequence E7
ACEA Oil Sequence E6
ACEA Oil Sequence E5
ACEA Oil Sequence E4
ACEA Oil Sequence E3
ACEA Oil Sequence E2
If oils meeting API CG-4, API CF-4, or ACEA E2 are used, reduce the service interval by 50%.

Multi-viscosity diesel engine oils are preferred.

I used Deere Plus 50 0w-40 in my 1026R at my first oil change at 100 hours. At my next oil change, I'll either continue with Deere Plus 50 0w-40 or go with Rotella T6 5W-40 (which I've used in my TDI for the last 200,000 miles at 7-10K oil change intervals). I think both are good diesel oils.

Just my 2 cents.
